A San Rafael man was sentenced to 44 days in jail Wednesday for beating his Chihuahua puppy.
Jose Misael Cardenas, 20, was also ordered to obtain anger management counseling, banned from having pets for three years, and sentenced to 200 hours of community service, said Deputy District Attorney Aicha Mievis. Cardenas pleaded guilty in January.
The investigation began on Aug. 27, when authorities received an anonymous tip from a resident on North San Pedro Road about someone beating a Chihuahua. The Marin Humane Society arrived and seized the 6-month-old dog, Scooby, who suffered hemorrhaging to the left eye, fluid in the lungs, and bruising to the legs, chest and right ear, authorities said.
Prosecutors filed charges of animal cruelty, dissuading a witness and failure to take care of an animal. Judge Kelly Simmons eventually dismissed the second and third charges and reduced the first count to a misdemeanor.
Scooby has since been adopted by a family in Novato, said Carrie Harrington, a spokeswoman for the Marin Humane Society.

While you're at it you should read the comment section. One might think Marin is only liberal, but you just might be surprised. People in Marin are upset by the Canal (and Marin City) and some are getting angry over the illegals there (Canal). Yeah, right, they should check out Sonoma County huh?
