occasionally, they do some good but for the most part congress just wastes time and tax money. see a prime example below:
while the economy is in "crisis," Congresswoman Corrine Brown (D-FL) makes the most of her 5 minutes to do the people's work...
and what a great example she is of our public education system.

I couldn't watch all of it, too painful. You can bet that she got elected by beating people with the race card.

It's sad enough to see how dumb this chick is but worse to think that those who voted for her are even DUMBER!

Congress - All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.
Our Congress has developed problems that mirror some earlier Representative Democracy's. People world wide have not changed in 5000 years. Greed - reward - fame may drive a common person to no-good if not checked. Imagine getting 500 people in a debate about, oh, the definition - meaning of the Second Amendment! To use 21st Century social-education values is foolish to say the least, and Thomas Jefferson knew this.
Athens Nation State:
Athenians were divided into ten "tribes" based not on blood relations but on where people lived. Each tribe had its own military unit, shrine, priest and assembly. Any member of a tribe could participate in the election of local and state officials, and each tribe sent fifty representatives for one year of service to a city assembly Wikipedia. This Athenian body is a part of the founding to our House of Representatives 1787 Constitution. The North American Lakota practiced a similar body "War Council" that separated personal responsibility in caring for ones family, children, food and shelter vs tribal needs.
The Athens tribal districts (House of Representatives) was made up of common citizens (legal title) that had no particular vested interest in nor possessed the financial/social qualifications of the Aristocrat Statesman member (Senate). The purpose of 'tribal district' One Year Service was the recognized need to keep within the City Districts management a clean fresh new every-year view of the "people". The purpose of any Non Professional Body.
The Greek educational values of the day contributed to profuse writing of their time. Authors of work sometimes confused subjectivity/objectivity with their opinion. Kind of like our Media of today.
There is extensive documentation concerning the Greek experiment with Democracy. Some current historians have taken out of context and created new work that changes the original Greek language translation.

I find it interesting that there was a one year "limit" on representation in Athens. We have the ongoing problem in our system of the same numskulls getting re-elected over and over and thus denying that "fresh view of the people". We hear over and over from our representatives (term used lightly) that they need to be re-elected because it takes time to get things done. We heard it this year ALREADY from Obama and supporters too, that it will take more than 4 years to accomplish what he wants to do. This is the root problem that needs to be addressed NOW. It should NOT take years to "fix" anything. Washington has stagnated to the point of perpetual inaction and we, as a voting public, have become brainwashed to a point to just accept it.
It sucks.

Well with the notion of the OP in mind, Rep. Corrine Brown's CV includes.... A Masters in education yet she can't find anything better to do than be a professional politician since 1983. And speak like that.................. indeed.
