Damned good story, Crossride. And one to be proud of. I would say that you have more right than many of us to be critical of the ones who screach for "immigration reform." For me, this is a special day - 19 years ago I married my wife. Congrats, subdjoe! I didn't make it to 19... but not as many do these days

It's the illegal immigration that bugs the hell out of me. I can't blame them for coming over to make a better life for themselves and their family, and usually they work hard for very little pay. I blame our leaders for not securing our border. Subdjoe, congrats on 19 years of marriage!! Well, that is not true. You see, they are taking mechanics jobs, construction jobs, house cleaning jobs, etc. etc. You are prepetuating a myth and you support a path to citizenship. When our government raids a business back east, detains the illegals and then Napolitano and her crowd release them back into our society with ID cards and work taken from American citizens, that is not enforcement. I don't care how many kids they have that were born here. I don't care who they have to leave behind when they are deported. Illegal immigration is the sole cause of our medical crisis, education crisis, health crisis and many other problems. It is costing us the bank and the country. All in the name of gerrymandering voting districts. Time to rid ourselves of the problems. Close the border tight as a drum and deport every illegal here. They are criminals by definition. In fact, they are felons.

You see, they are taking mechanics jobs, construction jobs, house cleaning jobs, etc. etc. You are prepetuating a myth and you support a path to citizenship. I am not supporting a path to citizenship for illegals. That was John McCain's plan, remember? The reason they are taking mechanics' jobs, construction jobs, house cleaning jobs, etc. etc is because Republicans under the Bush Administration wanted it that way. They wanted businesses to have access to cheap labor and thus they refused to secure our border with Mexico during the 6 years they were in power, even post 9/11. It's very simple, really: Republicans are pro-business and want access to cheap illegal-immigrant labor. Democrats are pro-humanitarian and feel obligated to take care of illegals once they are here. I find myself in the latter camp. Once we let illegals in, it is our responsibility to take care of them in the same way we would an American citizen. The fact that they are illegal doesn't mean they aren't human. We have to treat all people on American soil humanely. With that said, we need to secure the border to ensure they aren't allowed to come into our country in the first place. It is completely unfair to every immigrant who wants to come here via legal means. You are stretching the truth here. Illegal immigration is not the sole cause of our problems, but it does add to them. I am conflicted on whether or not I support deportation when someone has started a family here. The time to secure our border would have been just after 9/11. Unfortunately, it wasn't done. Hopefully our current financial crisis will spark some action.

subdjoe, yes, 19 years...OMG! Congratulations. I am not so sure I will hit that mark. Thanks. My first marriage lasted about 7 years, then my wife decided that she needed to be on her own for a while. She had never really done that. My wife and I have actually been together for closer to 21 years, that whole live together for a while first thing. It has been interesting. And quite wonderful. Thank you everyone for your well wishes.

I am not supporting a path to citizenship for illegals. You support Obama, Clinton, Woolsey, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, Thompson, the Democrat Party, the Leftist Agenda and statism. You support a path to citizenship. McCain is not a good example either, I do not support his ideas on immigration. I am in line with Tancredo on that subject.

It's very simple, really: Republicans are pro-business and want access to cheap illegal-immigrant labor. You got it, Republicans are pro-business, Democrats are not. Republicans are not pro-illegal immigrant labor, they are pro-business. You are creating a myth or lie here. Actually, if you are a humanitarian then you should be demanding the immediate deportation of these felons. But, you are not pro humanitarian. That is why you lie and say things like, "illeagls only take the jobs Americans don't want." You would rather a fellow American suffer then to punish the criminals. Lastly, the fence went up under Bush, not Clinton. You are stretching the truth here. Illegal immigration is not the sole cause of our problems, but it does add to them. I am conflicted on whether or not I support deportation when someone has started a family here. Did you even read the report? I think not. The time to secure our border would have been just after 9/11. Unfortunately, it wasn't done. Hopefully our current financial crisis will spark some action. The time to secure our border is NOW. Unfortunately, the Obama's and Napolitano's of your party do not want it that way. They prefer the constiuency they get by the illegal border crossings. They always have and they always will. And that is who you support.

You are such a hypocrite.
Remember, it was RONALD REGAN who signed The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, granting amnesty to over 2.7 million illegals.
In what way am I creating a myth?? That is exactly why Bush and the Republicans did nothing to strengthen our border.
You're nuts if you think that illegals are the sole cause of our problems. Take your deluded viewpoint back to the PD forums, we're smarter than that here.
They're here, like it or not. You obviously haven't looked at what deportation would cost. .
Give me a break, are you really going to argue that Bush did ANYTHING to stem the flow of illegals? You are fighting an uphill battle.
Neither party has shown resolve to enforce our laws at the border. You only blame the Democrats which makes you a partisan hackjob.
