Last month, Emaar Properties unveiled a world-class permanent water fountain project with an integral light and sound show for Downtown Burj Dubai. It will be the world’s largest fountain at over 900 ft (275 metres) in length, equivalent to that of over two football fields and it is about 25 per cent larger than The Fountains at Bellagio in Las Vegas in area. Powerful water nozzles will shoot water sprays to heights of over 500 ft (150 metres), equivalent to that of a 50-story building. www.sizzledcore.com/2008/07/01/worlds-largest-fountain-building-in-dubai/_______________________________________________ Where is all that water coming from??? Tourist attraction or show of wealth, it just doesn't make any sense!

Well, since I am not a citizen of Dubai, and it does not effect the water table in California, I think it is a non-story. But, like a good liberal, you will attack.

Bloverk, if this story has no effect on you and you consider it a "non-story", why did you respond?
When Saddam Hussein killed Kurds, it didn't effect you either.... point being that what is going on in the Middle East has been a big issue with the US......Dubai just happens to be on our good side, so to speak.
If we are saving those who need democracy (so we think), why don't we suggest neighbor help neighbor?

Mink sez...
For those of you who are cartographically challenged, let me remind you that Dubai is a small nation on the Gulf of Persia. Since most of the country is dust, they get all of their water from the Gulf, via large desalination plants.
Why does it have to make sense? Does the St. Louis Arch make sense?

Have you ever heard of being neighborly? With all that is happening in the ME, surely they can make better use of their wealth than to have the biggest of everything. I was being facetious when I inquired about the source of the water

Mink, what's the point of acquiring wealth if you can't have some fun with the excess? I'm all for helping my less fortunate neighbor, though. When I bought myself an irresponsible, obscenely large TV set, I invited my neighbors over to watch it :-)

Since most of the country is dust, they get all of their water from the Gulf, via large desalination plants. And said plants were built, largely, with US technology by US firms employing both blue and white collar folks. Or would we rather those jobs go elsewhere?

Before we pass judgments maybe we should first rule out that Michael Jackson hasn't built another Neverland, it could be his new playland in Dubai...
Doesn't he still reside there? He is living the down-low lifestyle. Doing what who the hell knows...
Sorry, couldn't resist. ;D

I do not like when people are killed for being different. But, what the hell does that have to do with a damn fountain?

They should listen to you, because you know better then they how they should spend their money. Like I said, non-issue.
