The front page story on the PD on line has been cut off and all comments have been erased. I guess they don't want pissed off people commenting on facts. F-ing 45% of kids under five are Latino! I'm sorry, but this county is ruined. The bleeding hearts(I'm looking at you saunt) have succeeded in turning Santa Rosa into TJ. Thanks a-holes.

Scary stats! Where is ICE? Seriously, how did it get to that point? PD probably had to ban comments since I am sure people were outraged.

How did it get to that point? Pretty simple really. I am sure saunterelle would say it is the fault of Bush, for not securing the border. In reality, it is the fault of Congress and it always has been.
Would you like some statistics on just how many of them got here illegally? It is staggering and it is time to cut them off from both legal and illegal immigration for what has occured. I am not for turning this country into Mexico, Central America or South America, though it may well be to late.
I say we turn on the European Immigration line again and flood this country with more freedom loving Europeans to balance out the numbers.
I also say we round up every single illegal alien and send them home, with a five year wait at the end of the line. Come illegal a second time, banishment forever.
Time to remove the constitutional provision that allows them to squeeze one out on our side of the border and then get permanent funding to stay here forever too.
Also, CPS should take their children away and make them wards of the state if the parent is here illegally. You would take the children from white people who commit crimes and last time I checked, coming here illegally is a crime. And it is a crime that puts an extreme burden on the child both socially and financially, which hinders their development and intergration into our society.
Lastly, put some damn education requirements on the immigrants. Bring in people who will advance this nation, not drag it down to the level of the countries these people sneak in here from.

I'd expect the PeeDee now understands why their revenue and readership is in the shitter..... a growing percentage of their market es no habla.
That story would have been a lightning rod for the xenophobic idiots who troll through there, as well as for those elements in the Latino community intent on expanding their victimhood status.
Having said that... should the borders be more tightly controlled?
Yes.
Should the government actively pursue and immediately deport criminal illegal aliens?
Yes.
Should the government stop providing welfare and free medical care to anyone who can not prove citizenship or legal resident alien status?
Yes.
Should the government, as Joe notes above, follow the state's Constitution and mandate English immersion in our public schools?
Yes.
Next?

English may be the official language in California, but you'd never guess it when you make a phone call and the recording says press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish. My usual patience is tried when the recording is lengthy and done in both languages without a choice. Here is an interesting article in this week's Northbay Business Journal: www.northbaybusinessjournal.com/article/20090511/BUSINESSJOURNAL/905109955/1207/BUSINESSJOURNAL02HUMAN RESOURCES, HIRING & EMPLOYMENT LAW Guest Contributor: New policy targets employers, not workers LIABILITY FOR IMMIGRANT WORKERS SHIFTS, COULD IMPACT LOCAL BUSINESSES Monday, May 11, 2009 BY CHRISTOPHER A. KEROSKY
NORTH BAY – This month the Obama Administration announced a new policy of more aggressively pursuing prosecution of employers of illegal immigrants, changing the focus and methods of the Bush administration toward criminal cases against employers. It coincides with new government efforts to target employers who hire undocumented workers indirectly, through independent contractors, rather than putting them on payroll.
Together these new policies and practices of the federal government increase the risk to many employers in the North Bay, where immigrants make up roughly a quarter of the local work force and contribute so much to our economy and our society.
Starting in 2006, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) initiated stepped-up enforcement against employers of undocumented workers. ICE began aggressively bringing criminal and civil cases against employers and even seizing corporate assets.
Last year, 863 employers of illegal workers were arrested on criminal charges and more than $30 million in fines were imposed. Federal prosecutors began to charge employers with money laundering, harboring of illegal aliens and violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
In the new guidelines just announced, the department calls for more severe fines and criminal prosecution against employers found to violate these laws. The directives instruct ICE field offices and agents to focus on employers and supervisors. Moreover, they suggest the approach used in Washington may be employed more often: use the workers themselves to help prosecute their bosses.
“Enforcement efforts focused on employers better target the root causes of illegal immigration,” according to the new guidelines. “ICE must prioritize the criminal prosecution of actual employers who knowingly hire illegal workers because such employers are not sufficiently punished or deterred by the arrest of their illegal work force.”
Sec. Napolitano warned in an interview last month that the agency would increase its auditing of employers’ internal records, including the I-9 forms filled out when hiring a new employee that verify the person has the right to work. She even suggested that ICE would use illegal workers as undercover informers to implicate their bosses. “What I want to do is deter more employers from intentionally and knowingly hiring illegal workers,” she declared.
North Bay employers should heed the clear message sent by federal authorities: They are going after those who hire immigrants lacking proper documentation of their right to work. Especially in these tough economic times, one should expect this type of aggressive workplace enforcement of immigration laws to increase with time.
Our local economy depends upon the important contributions of immigrants to the workplace.

Sounds like a good plan Mink, thanks for bringing it to our attention. If they can't get work they will leave.

I have no problem with enforcement against employers. However, it sounds like it has the potential to turn into a money grab like many of the agencies in California are guilty of, which drives off our local businesses to places like Nevada.

Why would they leave simply because they cannot find work?
This is now a welfare state/nation.
No-one will starve, so no-one will leave(or very few).
As long as illegals can get something for nothing, they will stay.
Why wouldn't they?

Well, I looked for a link with no luck, but somewhere I heard the state now requires a birth certificate as proof for eligibility for these programs. I'm not sure if they would cover a parent born in another country even if baby was born here is the state.
