Sounds like a good plan Mink, thanks for bringing it to our attention. If they can't get work they will leave. Your welcome saunterelle. In this economy, it is some good news. They may not be leaving in a mass exodus, but I have heard of a few that left because there is no work......

Why would they leave simply because they cannot find work? This is now a welfare state/nation. No-one will starve, so no-one will leave(or very few). As long as illegals can get something for nothing, they will stay. Why wouldn't they? It is a misconception that most illegals are here for handouts. That is simply not a part of their culture, they are looking for work. In fact, Mexicans spend more time working than any other culture on earth. They work hard and spend only 16 percent of their time having fun. This is why you rarely see Mexicans begging for money. www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/05/05/MN7P17E5QC.DTL&hw=mexicans+french&sn=004&sc=507

They don't have to beg.
We hand out education; housing assistance; food and foodstamps; SSI; medical care; and we make them all non-deportable once they drop a baby free of charge in our hospitals.
Again, why would they leave to return to the most racist, lawless nation in the W. hemisphere?
What could possibly(other than homesickness)motivate them to give up this smokin' deal?

saunterelle, sorry to say I agree with harpman. If a person enters this country without working for it through our process they shouldn't be here. CA (and other states) are circling the drain and we cannot afford to dole monies to people that earn money under the table, send their earnings to their homeland, don't pay into taxes etc, they use our medical system for having babies (urgent care), send those children to school "on us" and then at that point it is very difficult to send them back. I do agree that Mexicans are hard working people, and I do feel really bad for their plight, but what I don't want to see is Americans that have paid their dues to be in America sacrifice for those that cheat. It isn't right! And, I hope you don't come back with the "well, who would pick our fruit, do hard labor" questions because as it stands in this economy almost anyone who is out of a job and losing their home. I know, how about inmates? They would earn a meager wage, feel productive and in the end it's a win-win for everyone!

i also agree that the vast majority of mexicans i know are very hard working people. too bad they aren't working hard in their homeland to make it a better place rather than the shithole it is. mexico is really a beautiful place with lots and lots of natural resources, thousands of miles of amazing coastline and yet it is an economic disaster. all due to corruption. the last 5 seconds of this video are very important! my wife tells me similar stories almost daily of the same crap right here in our own backyard.

Much as it pains me to say it, I agree with you on this point, Saunterelle. The Latinos in my neighborhood have generally a better work ethic and, more importantly, a better family ethic. However, once they are here, they take advantage of America's superior health care and education systems. That's where most of the burden falls.

I am in agreement with what all of you have said, including JMO. I have never made the argument that if illegals were deported "no one would pick fruit, clean homes, work construction, etc" and I do not believe that to be the case. I have no doubt that Americans would fill those jobs.
It is not fair for illegals to come here, often with little education and work training, and cut in front of educated immigrants who have been patiently waiting their turn to come here, work hard, and make a better life for themselves and their families. We need better border enforcement and we need an efficient way to deport illegals when they are caught.

Very well put saunterelle, and I agree with your take a hundred percent.
The jobs vacated by illegals no longer in the workforce pool would get filled. Americans would, generally, command a somewhat higher compensation which would drive costs and prices up some, but the net gain on employment would almost certainly offset.
The question of fundemental fairness in immigration versus illegal immigration is what I've been hollering about for thirty years. You hit the nail squarely on the head.

Fabulous! Agreement on a huge issue!
Let us now discuss specific methods to achieve the goal of secure borders and immigration justice.
