Well, it looks like Saddam had the last laugh because we were so trigger happy. The rest of the world turned against us after finding out there were no WMDs.

Well, it looks like Saddam had the last laugh because we were so trigger happy. The rest of the world turned against us after finding out there were no WMDs. The rest of the world was just as convinced as us that Saddam was a threat. Go back and read about the UN Security Council actions in the period from 1996 to 2002. The rest of the world was perfectly happy to sit back and let us do the brunt of the fighting in Iraq, and to applaud when we overthrew Saddam's Baathist government. Now, the rest of the world scoffs at us because we did not leave before the job was done, like they would have done. The rest of the world turns to us when it comes to dealing with problem cases like Darfur, or North Korea, or Lybia. When there's a devastating hurricane in Southeast Asia, the rest of the world looks to us to do the heavy lifting. Which nation came to Louisiana's aid after Katrina? The rest of the world can laugh at us, but why are so many people anxious to immigrate here? The rest of the world doesn't vote in our elections - only Americans do. At least, that's the plan.

You haven't been paying attention, Saunterelle. The investigaiton isn't finished by a long shot. Or do only the things that were found in the first week count? It is SO tempting to hit that smite button on you.

We've been searching for years now and found none of the WMDs we claimed were there.
The rest of the world did not support going in as quickly as we did. They wanted to let the inspectors finish their job which, in retrospect, was a wise idea.

We've been searching for years now and found none of the WMDs we claimed were there. BZZZZZZT... I'm sorry but that is not the correct answer. We've got some lovely parting gifts and a home version of "What WMD?" for you. Why? How about the chemical muntions found? The thousands of metric tons of yellowcake uranium? Etc. Etc. Etc. All found in Iraq since the active military campaign ended. Oh, but that isn't what gets reported in the NY Times? Not entirely true, and given the active stonewalling by Saddam that had been going on for years, a poor idea at best. You're arguing from a flawed set of facts. Please see the Dulfer Report and the after action reports on L'Affaire Plame.

They wanted to let the inspectors finish their job which, in retrospect, was a wise idea. Did you even bother to read how little of the stuff that has been found so far has been evaluated? And SH had a decade or so to hide stuff from the UN. How well do you think you could hide some stuff if you had that much time? And especially if you were the one giving guided tours to the inspectors?

Didn't we help supply those WMD's in the 1980's when Rummy shook hands w/ SH?

Didn't we help supply those WMD's in the 1980's when Rummy shook hands w/ SH? And? The UN in the 90s told SH to disarm. He didn't, or tried to make the world think he didn't. How he got them doesn't matter. Plus, it seems he was going beyond anything we may have given him.

No doubt the chemical munitions are damaging weapons in their own right and the yellowcake represents one crucial ingredient in WMD development but yellowcake can also be used in the preparation of fuel for nuclear reactors (my understanding is that what was found was not enriched so it was probably intended for the latter). The fact remains, they are not the Weapons of Mass Destruction the Bush administration claimed were there and used as their reason to attack Iraq immediately. Believe me, if we had found the WMDs we were looking for it would be plastered on every newspaper around the world, even the NY Times.

Didn't we help supply those WMD's in the 1980's when Rummy shook hands w/ SH? Ah, yes, that straw man argument again. I recall dealing with this same line from you when we used to haunt the PeeDee boards. Do you remember that? The argument that Saddam was, at one time, our ally, is hollow at best. If you look back through history, you will find that Japan was our ally against Russia during WW1, and Russia was our ally against the Axis in WW2. Saddam was our ally in the 80s because he was fighting Iran, the country that kidnapped our embassy employees during J.Carter's administration, and thumbed their noses at us for 400+ days. Allies shift all the time, Mink. You should know that by now.
