I know that the special election ballot, which votes today, is confusing, especially to those certain members of society who don't read up on the issues, but rely on the TV and the newspaper for their opinions. Unfortunately, those people have been barraged with ads from the special interest groups, like teachers, who all say, "Don't cut my money!" I always want to ask those people, "Who else do you suggest we cut in order to preserve your money?" I've never heard an answer to that question.
I voted No on Prop 1B and Yes on everything else. I know that the "rainy day" fund in Prop 1A is full of holes, just like the one we voted into existence 3 years ago. Oh, you didn't know we already had one? Didn't you read your voter's pamphlet? But, I think that some increase in taxes is needed simply beacuse the State has grown. However, I voted No on Prop 1B because I'm tired of the ballot box budgeting that has been popular for the past decade or more, where someone's good idea results in a guaranteed share of the general fund, regardless of other economic conditions in the state. Likewise, I voted Yes on Props 1C, 1D and 1E because they undo some of that ballot box budgeting we voted in in the past. Sorry, Mr. Reiner, your campaign had a short half-life. I voted Yes on Prop 1F because I want the Legislature to realize that we are sick and tired of their budget posturing. We send them to Sacramento to make the hard choices - it's time they start doing that.
Even if the turnout is low - it's predicted to be around 30% - the results of the election will still be valid. So, like I tell my daughters, if you don't vote, you can't bitch.
