Just to show that the Legislature is not cowed by the results of the last election, I present Exhibit A. This is from Matier & Ross at the SF Chron (scroll down to "Separated at Birth"):
Separated at birth: In another giant step toward gender equality, the state Assembly has passed a bill to allow those who have had sex-change operations to change their birth certificates.
The bill - authored by Democratic Assemblyman (and aspiring attorney general candidate) Ted Lieu of Torrance (Los Angeles County) - would allow California-born transgender people to obtain a court order "reflecting their correct gender." They could then use the order to obtain a corrected birth certificate.
The legislation, AB1185, now moves to the Senate.
Lieu said he was motivated in part by his close friend Mike, who became Mia - and the troubles she encountered making changes in such documents as her passport.
"The Equal ID Act makes certain every Californian has the freedom and liberty to be true to his or herself," Lieu said.
Or vice versa.
So, let me make sure I've got this straight. They can't figure out how to solve the $42 b-b-b-billion hole they have dug us into, but they can, by God, solve that pesky transgender problem!
And they wonder why we want to vote the bums out!
