"The emergency legislation will allow handguns to be kept in the home if they are used only for self-defense and carry fewer than 12 rounds of ammunition.
Handguns, as well as other legal firearms such as rifles and shotguns, also must be kept unloaded and disassembled, or equipped with trigger locks — unless there is a "reasonably perceived threat of immediate harm" in the home."
and
"The bill that passed Tuesday maintains the city's unusual ban of machine guns, defined as weapons that shoot at least 12 rounds without reloading, which applies to most semiautomatic firearms."
OK, so, an honest citizen is supposed to wait until they are in immediate danger to life and limb, THEN try to assemble a firearm or remove a trigger lock. "Oh, Mr. Thug, can you wait just a moment, I seem to be having trouble getting this trigger lock off. It will take me just a few seconds" "Oh, mr. robber, can you help me get the slide back on my pistol? I can't seem to get it to work right."
Talk about trying to get around the law and looking for loopholes. I'm pretty sure that the USSC ruling said that requiring trigger locks or having the firearm disassembled was a no no. All the politicians in the DC civic system should have to give up all police protection, their own firearms, their own armed guards, and be forced out of their gated communitites. AND wear signs saying "I am unarmed" and also to post signs on their doors and windows "No guns are in this house"
Then see how long it takes them to change their minds.
It also seems like most tube fed .22s are machine guns, so are many lever action rifles. Whooda thunk it! Heck, my 60 year old Mossberg bolt action .22 will take about 20 or 21 .22 shorts. I have never before heard of a bolt action machinegun. Must be worth some bucks. Do I need a Class III to own it?
Kind of like Chicago - one of the aldermen there 'forgot' to do the yearly registration on HIS firearms. So, rather than nail his hide to the wall as an example, why, he got the council and Mr. Mayor to pass a special bill allowing a short amnesty period for reregistering firearms if the owner had previously had them registered and accidntly let that lapse. Anyone else who tried something like that would have had the guns confiscated, and faced fines and/or jail time. Must be nice to be an Only One. Oh, and the guy who forgot to register his guns is one of the sponses of the ordinance that requires that the guns be reregistered every year. His excuse for not registering his? His secretary forgot to remind him. Can you say 'hypocracy?" I knew you could.
