i can think of an entire laundry list of places you can volunteer rather than that BS americorps thing or whatever they're calling it now. here's a short list:
salvation army goodwill second harvest DAV VA hospitals & clinics USO big bros/sis boys/girls clubs local parks/rec american heart association YMCA red cross
and the list goes on.....
people who have been volunteering at organizations like these have done it out of the goodness of their hearts and their willingness to help others. they didn't have to wait for a government website or "dear leader" to motivate them.

I will say to everyone the same thing I say to my fifteen year old son. Do you need someone to hold you by the hand and show you what to do? That is exactly what the Obama program is, holding your hand and showing you what to do. Talk about a colossal waste of time and money. This is the Google Search I did for Volunteering in Sonoma CountyGuess what else I found there, the County of Sonoma Volunteer Program. You can volunteer to help our county specifically, in various departments if you like. Don't rley on the feds, like Mink and saunterelle, you don't need to. Rugged individualism can be expressed through local volunteer programs that help the people in YOUR community.

To be clear, I do contribute time etc. through a platform that I will not share, but my point is if the gov link opens up opportunities for people that might not otherwise volunteer who cares how it happens so long as it does? Let me ask HOW can it hurt any of you, or anyone else to use the gov link?
I have wondered how to get involved in a more substantial way like helping children in need, and not just by throwing some money or toys at them, though that helps, but by finding a way to get them in a safe home without suffering at the hands of their sick and dysfunctional parents. Many of our children suffer every single day and not much is done to help them. I don't know how we as a society find a way to sleep at night... It's all about [glow=red,2,300]$$$ [/glow]and to hell with the rest.
As I get older I am getting really tired of greedy and selfish people hoarding as many nuts as possible without concern for anyone else. Life is about so much more than serving thyself, and screw the rest attitudes. And, yes I know people like that.

JMO, I think part of the point is that many on the left spent eight years sitting on their thumbs doing nothing but being boat anchors and ignoring both problems and calls to get out and help others. Then, when the former junior senator from IL is crowned, or the day before anyway, they get all excited about the "new opportunities" to get off their butts and help their communities. 'course, now most of them feel that with one day of running around like manic idjits blocking traffic and being ineffective, they have done their part and everything is just hunky dory.

subdjoe, your position may apply to some, but not to me for sure. I honestly wouldn't care which political party came up with the idea, I would still think it to be helpful if a Republican came up with it. I guess I am unusual since I don't stand by a particular party, but rather by a individual or ideal.

Do you have a link for this claim? The last 8 years (and anytime a Republican is in office), many or should I say ALL republicans rejoice in lower taxes, trying to do away with programs that help the needy, from childrens programs to mental health and seniors. When a Democrat is in office, Republicans whine about taxes to pay for those same programs they took from when they were in office. It is easier to deem the needy as opportunists. Granted, there are bad politicians, but to make your claim above is, false.

No wonder they line up in droves to vote for the DiFis, Babs Boxers, and Obamas of this world. They can't put a coherent thought together to save their lives. Sheeple. Plain and simple.

It is against the Constitution for the President to do this. It is not needed. It is only a political ploy.
