Very interesting Big Dog. Thank you... But we are talking about a job that will take probably 100 years. and never be finished, then. Again I say that California would need "Visionaries" to accomplish what I propose. This would take a lot of [OMG] Federal attention, in the form of an "Authority". I see nothing to really obstruct the plan I propose. Unless you consider the "Money" it would take. An Authority would make it more palatable for everybody. Once the Container Port is in Operation I see lots of money coming in. This will not all be done at one time, so not to worry about anything near Oregon and Washington State.
Thanks Big Dog for at least listening to what I have to say. They will be done, some day. I won't be here to see it, but I can see it now in my "Minds Eye". I just try to get people to see the Possibilities. The thought comes to mind that C.C.Meyers could get the right people interested.

"Visionaries" is what we are struggling with now as a state.... and they all seem to have wrapped themselves in green. An "authority" at the state or regional level is not created by the federal government. See SMART, North Coast Railroad Authority and the Bay Area Air Quality District as examples. All of these are created by acts of the state legislature. One of the more recent examples is the San Francisco Bay Water Authority... pushed through at the behest of former State Senate President Pro Tem Don "Pistol Packin'" Perata. The SFBWA is charged with developing ferry boat routes on the bay..... and keep Perata's cronies who own ferry / tour boat operator companies in business and flush with taxpayer subsidy. A worthless district that is gobbling up scarce taxpayer money for what is essentially nothing while assuming that someday we will have an earthquake (duh) and that because bridges might be down we will need ferries. Sorry but ..... For what it's worth I don't see a lot of money coming in from your San Pablo Bay Container Port dream. The container port facilities in San Francisco and Richmond both sit largely idle while 95% of the traffic goes through the Port of Oakland with it's dedicated and integrated intermodal infrastructure. I'm not even sure a satellite port in Eureka is that good an idea, but at least it has infrastructure available to it (some obviously in need of serious rehabilitation) and can be constructed on industrial sites that are now largely rotting timber and paper mills. Any San Pablo Bay site would need to be built on pristine marsh and agricultural land. I think that you and I could agree, our dreams and common sense aside, that such a siting would be a complete non-starter for Marin and Sonoma counties.

Oh yes, The Army Engineers will have a lot to say about it all.
And, nowadays, it would be a lot easier to just do as one pleases and "worry" about changing the rules as we go along.
Trillions? Trillions? Did I hear someone say? Why that's Peanuts compared to the cost of one half of a Bridge. I'll be long gone before the bridge even gets painted. You heard it said right here that the nuts and bolts of the western half of the Bay bridge are just as old and rusty as the ones that the New Eastern Section is replacing. Now we can't have that, can we? Let's build the rest of it while we are at it.
OMG!!! We don't even know who Prints our Money.

I have stated on this Forum that Highway 101 will never be a useful road to get anywhere except to the store, "So to speak". Those things I speak of are not something that can be started "Willy Nilly", and add on pieces here and there. It would take a large number of people who can see things in Northern California, as a large Job that will take the cooperation of many people. So far I have seen nothing said on this Forum that would Sidetrack anything I have said, to date.

Hey, heckheckle, how about giving me some credit in pointing out that the train would go over budget. My prediciton is it will be a minimum of 45% over budget, as virtually every public rail project has been in the United States since Japan built it's bullet train, which was 50% over budget. SMART is already over budget, and the red will continue so they can suck more dollars out of your pockets for the elitists who get to run the train to no where and serves no one.
