Well, the casino has been beat to death on the other forum. No sense in talking about 101, it is what it is. Don't want to get into the total lack of regard our local capons have for us.

Well. Is it time to start up SMART talk? Will the fact that SMART is really a front to get North West Pacific railway up and running on the taxpayers dime get any attention on thsi forum? hmm...let's see.

Well it is always good to be aboard even if it is on the caboose...pun intended. Hope this issue gets some attention here and not railroaded. Important stuff for Sonoma folks. thanks

It won't happen until the people in Marin change their minds. The only good thing I can see coming from it would be that more freight would move by rail to points north of the Gate rather than having to be trucked from the railhead in Oakland. This would reduce somewhat the truck traffic on 101. Wouldn't it be nice if stuff going to Ukiah could move by rail rather than being hauled by truck through Santa Rosa? Do I think that this should be financed by use of public funds? No. Not unless the State will be paid back by the companies. On the other hand, look at the sweet deal the railroads got for the first transcontinental - alternating sections on each side of the tracks. Do I think this will have any kind of impact on commuter traffic? Hell no. Not unless people don't have to wait more than 15 or 20 min or walk more than about 2 blocks.

I have noticed alot of work going on at railroads crossings.
Something must be happening.
Even if the commuter side of rail travel doesn't make it, I think that goods moving up and down the North Bay by rail is a good thing.
Has anyone calculated the impact on our enviroment and costs for shipping - comparing trucks on the road as to goods moved by rail?

Well. Is it time to start up SMART talk? Will the fact that SMART is really a front to get North West Pacific railway up and running on the taxpayers dime get any attention on thsi forum? hmm...let's see. You have the cart before the horse. NCRA was created by the legislature in the early 1990's to preserve and keep operable the NWP right of way, from Eureka to Napa Junction, which was being abandoned by Southern Pacific at the time. SMART was created many years later with the specific goal of beginning commute rail. To ferrous... the work going on at the crossings is the next phase of the rehabilitation. The FRA will not allow the line to be operated until all the crossings are to code, safe and reliable. Once the crossings are all up to snuff the next phase of rehab can begin as work trains with materials and the needed heavy equipment will be able to transit the line and begin the much needed repairs. NCRA has bids out for the Petaluma River bridges. See their website for more. As to the mitigations in traffic and the environment, those have been calculated and estimated throughout NCRA's body of work on the matter. The naysayers dismiss them all as pipe dreams. While they may be somewhat optimistic taking a couple hundred truck trips a day off our roads is pretty much a win and one that can be built upon. The shortsighted and the naysayers always ignore potential.

I guess I put the brakes on the work thats been done on SMART. "They" don't know how to fit "Heckheckles Bridge" into the equation. Any interruption in some peoples thinking sort of rattles their brains and it will take a long time to get back to a starting point. They wonder what this guy Heckheckle knows. Well, he knows another bridge is needed to get North Californy moving. There is just too much valuable land up there, to ignore. Of course the East Bridge will have to be finished, and then "They" will have to start on the New West Bridge. After all, those nuts and bolts in the old West Bridge are just as rusty as the ones in the old East Bridge were.
