SMART was created by Joe Nation's Senate bill 2224 in 2002. Funded with 37 million dollars.The NCRA in 1989 was funded and in 1991 bought Eureka Southern(in bankruptcy) with 43 million dollars from the state to bail our the second rail company to go belly up on this rail line. Without taxpayer dollars NWP will also go belly up, but not until they have drained the taxpayer and personally profited.Their business plan shows no profit margin large enough to support the extreme cost of keeping the rails open through the winters in the north canyons.
The transport materials on this line will be from landfills and quarries. Landfills to Nevada. The addition of more trucks to transport to the rail terminal will actually increase truck traffic on local roadways. Local inter county truck transport will not be affected. There are no plans for truck distribution terminals on any plans I have read.
