I will point out that somewhere, here, I mentioned that I had no faith in High Tensile Bolts. In large bridges. The very bolts that broke in the first repair have been referred to as "High Tensile" Bolts. [id est] "High Tensile Steel" Bolts. I refer to this somewhere in my Posts about the New Bridge.

No one yet has changed any of my thinking in my posts. Some try to do damage, but they have only made themselves look silly.
The next noise about the repair job is they may have to replace the Eye Bar. No Sh t? And if that doesnt work, they can always plant it in Ivy...Does anyone now believe that "They" know what they are doing?

I am defering to you on this, I only have limited knowledge on the subject. But I like the Ivy idea.

Gee, I guess our local leftists missed this post, which, by the way, is on the same page as yours. Not only that, my link goes right to the Washington State Department of Transportations Tacoma Narrows Bridge History and not some pathetic, weakass wikipedia article on the topic. And if you like his use of the emoticon, you'll really like mine: I g :pt tw w :prds f :pr ya'... Cap, I think everyone here is guilty at one time or another of missing a post or two.....no need to get huffy! Anyways, Galloping Gertie is a good example of why they need to get it right. It is still scary that they allowed people on the bridge knowing the job is not done yet...... yikes! Come on, I was just funnin' ya' with the icons. I thought it was creative of heckheckle, so I used them. But, my sense of humor is pretty warped sometimes.

Capt kona: It doesn't matter to me who Brought up the name, "Galloping Gertie" first". I just try to point out some information pertinent to the topic I am writing about, in a truthful way, somtimes with a little humor, but you seem to have a flaw in the way you give credit to yourself, even when the truth is just a few sentences back from your Post. Not the other way around as you so state. You claim that you were first to bring up Galloping Gertie as the bridge that collapsed. You didn't Identify the Bridge as the Tacoma, Washington Bridge that collapsed from the Wind because of Fatal Design Flaws. You just stated, "Galloping Gertie", in your Post of: Reply #25 on Oct. 29, 2009, 12:11PM, Page 3. My Post #18 on Oct. 19, 2009, 2:15 AM, Page 2 Identifies the bridge. Aw go look for yourself. I just point out the folly of trying to make me look bad by some stupid lie. Edit: There are some who seem to think I missed a Post. "Methinks" they make the same mistakes that are done all the time on this forum, in assuming that all the Posts are true, instead of going back a little further to see if there is an older Post that "THEY" have missed. My record speaks for itself Read my post to Mink. I was just funnin' ya' with your icon posts. I thought they were cool.

What? No rebuttal of my noting that Capt. is all wet in stating that I swiped his Post of Reply # 25 on Oct. 29, Page 3. I noted the Tacoma Bridge Disaster in my Post #18, on Oct. 19, Page 2.
And, what? no appology for someone inferring that I missed a Post and made an error? Which is not the truth.
I may make an error, now and then, But the Bridge Thingee is not one of them, no matter how they distort the truth.

I wouldn't take my kids on the bridge either heckheckle. I saw on the news last night that they will be inspecting the bridge, hanging from these ropes everyday.......

Maybe someone in Cal Trans. will show more TV Pictures of the new East Bridge. I hope they will show more of the Tower and the Suspender Connections. There must be many people who are very interested in the "Nuts and Bolts" of the bridge. Also how about another shot of the animated Earthquake Damage that could be done. Also how about a lenghthy shot of those welded connections, and some explanations of what the problem with them is.
How about an hour Documentary?... I would also be interested in what effect high winds would have on that bridge. Oh, I could go on, and on, with questions about the whole "Bridge Mess". But I won't, at this time.

Just a little more, "Fat on the Fire". . My suggestion about the Bridge Mess is, Shut it down until there are Real, Large Bridge Builders, brought in to sort out all the incompetence and waste, etc. , and get rid of all the people who have had anything to do with this Fiasco. Number one: All vehicles larger than a Pickup, should be banned from the Bridge. There will be more Big Rigs "going over the side" because there was never any safety factor built into the S curve. In Fact, dangerous factors are built right into the S Curve. I only caught a look at the S Curve today, that gives me an idea of what was done there. That curve where the "Rig" went over the side, is thrust unexpectedly at Big Rig Drivers who have close side tolerances and when they get almost around the bend, they have to whip the rig to the left to get back to the new lane. That will throw the trailer over the side. At least thats the way I see it. It looks like the skid marks would bear me out. He would have to take dangerous corrections to try to get back in line. It was too late for him. The Lanes were narrowed. There have been 40 or more accidents in a short period of time at that S Curve. There will be lots more. While driving over that bridge, who would expect to "Run Out of Bridge" and have to make a sharper than expected left turn? There seems to be no end to mistakes in judgement where this bridge is concerned. For now, there should be signs notifying drivers, "End of Bridge Ahead". There really ought to be a giant red arrow pointing to the left, located so it is visible from a distance from the curve and it would warn drivers, without any doubt that you have to turn left as soon as you enter the curve. That curve will be like a "Demolition Derby". Who in the world designed that mess?

???So far, Cal Trans is batting 1000. You know, Blame the victim. Even George Rask has fallen for their explanation why the Big Rig went over the side, killing the driver.
The explanation seems to be that the driver was going too fast. Haw. That in itself would not have thrown him over. nor would the added explanation that the load of pears shifted and threw the rig over. Nope not good enough.
The best idea I can propose, is, by looking at the overhead view of the braking skid marks of the rig, I have to conclude that the driver was surprised by a narrowing of the lane he was in., and that he didn't have room enough to his left because of another vehicle being too close. Thus he had to brake and it shows he had to turn left, by the skid marks. Of course the pears wanted to keep on going so they carried the trailer, and the van over the side. No one seems to pay attention to Newtons Laws, Yes the pears shifted, but because the lane was too small, and he had to brake for some reason.
Does anyone think the driver just felt like slapping on the brakes for fun?
The whole design of the bridges, from start, to where they are now, stinks. Everything is getting worse, from a near fatal miss, to a tragic death of the driver. I won't blame the driver. If you were the driver, What would you do? He just ran out of Bridge.
