Elberethe, welcome to the forum!! I know this isn't the "welcome" thread, but enjoy your stay anyway Thankyou Mink. Good to see you here and I do remember you from the PD forums. Not sure I will be welcome for long as I'm usually too controversial or too long winded for most foks, but thankyou just the same. You are always welcome and I'm glad you finally made it here and I remember you as well. Different points of view is what makes the forum interesting and I hope we provide that for you too!! Have fun

Now that that touching moment has passed, can we get back on topic? Why is it that, when Bush goes on a working vacation at his ranch in Crawford, TX, the libs are all over him for taking time off. But, when Obama spends a week in Hawaii, hitting golf balls, and Central Asia is exploding, everyone gives him a pass? For cryin' out loud, he's on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and he chairs the Subcommittee on European Affairs. Shouldn't he have something to say about the current conflict in Georgia? Edited to add: Apparently, Obama found a mike and opined on how the UN had to step in and "do something." See my post in "Democrat Defense Policy" about the weakness of the UN to do anything against one of the charter members of the Security Council. What now, oh Messiah?

That being translated means "Send in US troops." The UN has NO teeth to do anything. About all it can do is pass meaningless resolutions. And in this case the Security Council can do nothing at all since Russia will veto any action. Hmmm....I wonder - it was the Soviet Union that was made a permanent member of the UNSC, maybe Russia could be unseated as one of the 5 veto powers.
