The AP has this: Well, this is really bad news for the Democrats. Especially Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has more than once declared the war unwinnable. The Democrats will, of course, change the subject rather than answer the question, "How could you have been so wrong?"

"This amounts to more than a lull in the violence. It reflects a fundamental shift in the outlook for the Sunni minority, which held power under Saddam Hussein. They launched the insurgency five years ago. They now are either sidelined or have switched sides to cooperate with the Americans in return for money and political support."
Of course, the surge had nothing to do with this. And likely it is because all the parties over there recognize that When Obama becomes president, we will have world wide peace and prosperity starting about 5 minutes after he takes his oath of office.
There's a big, brown cloud in the city, And the countryside's a sin. An' the price of life is too high to give up, Gotta come down again. When the world wide war is over and done, And the dream of peace comes true. We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb, Eatin' that rainbow stew. When they find out how to burn water, And the gasoline car is gone. When an airplane flies without any fuel, And the satellite heats our home. One of these days when the air clears up, And the sun comes shinin' through. We'll all be drinkin' free bubble-ubb, An' eatin' that rainbow stew.
Kind of amazing how Barrys platform follows this song.
