The Deafening Silence

Am I the only one who's noticed the silence? Mere months ago, left-wing bloggers and demonstrators were wailing Support our troops, bring them home! seven days a week.

Now their presidential candidate has announced that he won't bring all those troops home, but will simply transfer combat forces from Iraq to Afghanistan - expanding that war. (He's discussed possibly invading Pakistan, too.)

And the left's quiet as a graveyard at midnight.

Where are the outraged protests from MoveOn or the DailyKos? I thought the extreme left felt sorry for our service members in harm's way and wanted to reunite them with their families.

What happened?

We all know exactly what happened. The left has nothing against foreign wars (as long as they don't have to fight in person). They just want to pick our wars themselves.

The problem with Iraq wasn't that America toppled Saddam Hussein, but that George W. Bush did it. I've been saying it for years: Had Bill Clinton done the job, the left would've celebrated him as the greatest liberator since Abraham Lincoln.

When the pure partisan politics is laid bare like this, it makes the Left even more despicable, if that's possible.

At the outset of the Iraq war, news cameras caught a sign, pre-printed & professionally done, that said "No War Unless a Democrat is President"

Odd that they would be so honest so early.

Just like in the Balkans. Narry a peep out of them about NATO or UN troops (that is, mostly American) being made to stand fast and watch as at least 200 Christian churches, monastaries, shrines, etc. were destroyed. But let an American soldier step into a mosque with his boots on and you would think they were tearing the skin off of pregnant women or roasting babies over open fires on their bayonets. I'll note here that we are STILL in the Balkans, per the policy of the last Dem. president. I don't hear the Pink Ladies, Ladies in Black, et al. protesting that.

And those two sentences sum up the state of foreign policy in this country. Those with memories recall the wailing of the left prior to Desert Shield / Desert Storm in 1990 that Americans wouldn't tolerate body bags, that it would be a bloodbath, that it was another example of jingoistic Republican imperialists going to war for personal gain.

But it was okay for Bill Clinton to lob cruise missiles and send bombers when his poll numbers tanked.

Just Curious. I really enjoy the more enlightened posting of the many of the posters here, but wondering if you all are so Conservative Republican that I should probably not even waste my time here?

I tend to swing both ways and neither. I don't see either political party as being concerned with America's interests and freedom. I tend to believe a true Patriot is at least beginning to recognize that our current form of Govt. is failing us miserably and needs to be dismantled.

Then there are days I try to find the silver lining in it find myself repeating the mantra, "Our Govt. was designed to be inept for a very good reason." or "It is the job of the people, not the Government, to ensure our rights are never trampled, our people are fed, and our liberty ensured."

I often get frustrated with people whose thinking is so narrow they believe the problems this country faces can be explained by pointing fingers and passing blame and in my short-temper will accuse them of having the same head-up-the-arse-disease that Santerelle suffers from. The inability to think for oneself and see the bigger picture. The agenda to ignore the bigger picture because it suits ones point.

Is this just a place where Conservatives and ditto-heads come to cry/vent about Liberals and where we all recognize that all Democrats are Liberals and all Liberals are so far left they are Santerelle clones?

Just honestly curious. Because this thread sure sounds that way.

Elberethe, you'll find a freer discussion here than you will over on the PeeDee forums. That's why I left those and stayed here.

Everyone is free to express their opinions here. Many make claims without any facts to back them up, a faux pas that will always generate a lot of comment. But, if you are well founded and have facts to back up your statements, you'll fit right in, regardless of where you fit in the political spectrum.

This particular thread is about the fact that there has been no reaction on the Left from Obama's claim that he will redeploy troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, even from the rabid Left that demanded that all troops come home NOW! Did you want to comment on that?

Thanks Gaff. Good to see you again too although I think we are gonna have some slap downs. Yes, I remember our first meeting. You should already know I'm not well-rounded but loosely strung together and I have as many facts as Obama does, so looks like shakey ground for me.

No, I have nothing to say about the Left's political silence. I'm always happy when Politicians shut up no matter what side they are on. Who knows .. they might actually be listening for a change. It could happen!
