Hmm, with state workers worried about possible wages of $6.55 an hour until a budget is passed, some may be laid off. Wouldn't that add to the state unemployment? www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/07/28/state/n114329D11.DTL&feed=rss.newsQuote: The department also has 751 contractors who could be terminated. And that won't be good news for customers, said Amber Carlson, who would lose her $14.75-an-hour part-time job answering phones and processing paperwork at the DMV's Sacramento headquarters. _____________________________________ I feel for anybody losing or possibly losing their job, but honestly, how many times have you called the DMV only to listen to timeless prompts, endless waiting for someone to answer your one question? At $14.75 an hour, I would expect immediate help!

First, California's minimum wage is about $8.00 per hour, not $6.55, which in fact is the federal rate is going to be $7.25 in July 2009. So don't be so deceptive with the truth.
Second, it is a matter of constitutional law in this state that the budget must be completed on time. But, as usual, the democrats are holding it up. Where is your vitriol for them? Or, as usual, do they get a pass since the have a big D after their name, and you as usual blame the Republican.

It's true bloverk! The Governor wants federal wages for state workers, at least until a budget is passed, however, it doesn't stop the fact that layoffs are imminent.
I think, that pay should include state politicians as well.

You also failed to mention that the layoffs are all for part time or temporary workers, not full time employees.

Also, how about the constitutional provision that requires a budget to be completed on time? It is not our governor that is holding it up, now is it. Come on, let me hear the anger for those in your party who are responsible, as usual. Stop blaming republicans and blame those responsible.

I'm not angry at all.....I was just posting a current event. Why do you get so defensive, bloverk? The union is behind the state workers and most likely this will go to court...maybe not, but they are ready, regardless. Although I feel for anyone losing their job/s or taking a drastic pay cut, have you ever wondered why they are well paid and you have to waste precious time on the phone waiting for the DMV to answer one question? Now, if I find out the Republicans are at the bottom of this fiasco, I won't be angry as I have become numb to the ridiculous antics at the country's expense.

Why do you post a deceptive story? The simple fact is, rather then close down the government, he has chosen this course. Better to get paid then not paid, and keep the services open. Until the democrats get off their lazy, lying butts, something must be done. The democrats are in violation of the constitution of this state, again. That is the real story. That is also the reason for this proposal. Now, if you are going to talk about the issue, talk about the whole issue, rather then attempting to smear another republican with your partial, slanted point of view.

And, by ridiculous antics, do you mean holding up appointments without letting them out of committee without an up and down vote? Or not being realistic with energy policies? Or engineering a failed loan program for people that can not afford homes, and then bringing on a housing crisis when they targeted people can not afford the higher interest rates when the time comes. Or going around and debasing a leader at every breath and blaming him for everything that comes down the pike?
Ooops, that was the democrats, sorry.

It is in the news and not a deceptive story. While you may have posted it and brought out the fact that Dems are holding up the budget........I am looking at this from another stance. The fact that more will be unemployed, wages brought to federal wage status and motor vehicle owners must wait on the phone for help. You just contrue this as a pubbie bash, because bashing is what you do....therefore, we must all think like bloverk and "bash" in the same defensive fashion.

Well, it so happens I have read the story, slanted as it is. The simple fact is this, it is a ploy by our governor to get the democrats off of their collective asses and do what they are constitutionally mandated to do, pass a budget on time. You are the one who has taken the negative tact, by ignoring that fact, and there by supporting those in our government who believe they are above the law. Democrats, as usual.
Also, notice that though I do not agree with the way you present this issue, I did not smite you. I do not believe you are presenting it as intentionally bashing, but instead you are being duped by the media, as most democrats usually are. And ignorance does not deserve smiting.

Bloverk, I'm not sure why you would tell me whether you smited me or not except for the fact that you slipped in your remark that "ignorance" doesn't deserve one......touche` Actually, I'm glad you read the story. This wasn't the only link and it is in the news, so how you want to respond to my post is up to you. This isn't the first time it has been done, only Wilson handed out IOU's...... The never-ending battle between the Democrats/Republicans in the great state of California. For the record, I like Arnold I still don't like waiting on the phone for the DMV!!!
