Perhaps it is because she is a woman who can relate unlike Bill Gates or Andrew Carnegie. Not intended to be a sexist remark, but her feminine quality mixed with her resourcefulness has touched lives unlike any man or most men. Edited to add: How do I know she isn't greedy? What foundations do they have? What networks do they have?
They sure made/make a Big Public To-Do about hatred, war, oil,
divisiveness.
Anyway, I wouldn't include them as comparisons or equal to Oprah. They have come and gone and she is continuing her works.

Excuse me but let me point two things out.... 1) You made the blanket statement and were challenged on it. That you respond by asking for proof of my challenge is typical of you and utterly incorrect in debate. 2) I did not cite examples of "oil men", so you clearly pulled that little broadbrush attack straight out of your ass. I am not debating that Oprah has not done very good work philanthropically. There are some rather large issues with a couple of her charitable works, but those are not the matter under discussion. You say she is not "greedy" in how she has accrued her vast wealth. I challenged you and provided examples of other (much vaster) wealth that has been used philanthropically. Prove your claims or shut the hell up about it before you look really foolish. |

Wow! I find the disintegration of this thread disappointing. First of all, subdjoe, and TBD, do you WATCH Oprah? Because if you did over the past years you would fully understand she has done a great job of helping people with so many issues from mental and physical health, to abuse, homosexuality, marital, obesity, and so much more. She has used her platform to help educate mostly women on many important issues that concern them. I am not gushing over the woman ( subdjoe), I just recognize she has genuinely worked hard to help and inspire people and that is why she has been on the air for so long. She has given to many charities, and by the way she doesn't have to do ANYTHING for ANYONE because she is rich, it is her choice. If she wants to sleep with all of her money that's her choice and it's nobody's business, but that is not the case. Seen her a few times, but not in the past year or two. She still, from what gets in the new about her, touts the anti-civil rights, collectivist views of the left.
I'll grant, she does give away a fair chunk of change.
