East Coast / gulf coast drivers make CA drivers look like saints! I was shocked to see the reckless driving in FL, Alabama, and the Carolinas. If they see pedestrians in crosswalks, they speed up and gun it -- rather than yielding to pedestrians.
Walking through a crosswalk is like playing russian roulette on the east coast /gulf states. That's because in pretty much all of those states there is no requirement in law for drivers to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Or much of anyplace else in or around a roadway either for that matter. Including when drivers are crossing sidewalks with a driveway, in many locales. Requiring drivers to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk is a largely a western phenomenon.

Walking through a crosswalk is like playing russian roulette on the east coast /gulf states. i suspect that you were born/raised here. i used to think that drivers from anywhere other than where i lived were crazy and unsafe. as my life has progressed and i've had the opportunity to live in many states my conclusion is that EVERY state/region has it's sahre of dangerous drivers. the only real differentiation i can make between states/regions is weather related. when it snows a bit in an area not know for such weather (in DFW, for example) people don't know how to drive in it and as a result accidents spike. same thing happens when it rains in typically dry areas. however, i can say with certainty that there are some foreign countries (korea, middle east) where driving seems to be a free-for-all sporting event. actually, it amazes me that there were no accidents in that video! pay close attention to the "daredevil" peds in this one:
