There is competition, has been, and our leaders and other leaders have history in oil. www.atimes.com/atimes/Central_Asia/JG30Ag01.htmlRussia takes control of Turkmen (world?) gas By M K Bhadrakumar "From the details coming out of Ashgabat in Turkmenistan and Moscow over the weekend, it is apparent that the great game over Caspian energy has taken a dramatic turn. In the geopolitics of energy security, nothing like this has happened before. The United States has suffered a huge defeat in the race for Caspian gas. The question now is how much longer Washington could afford to keep Iran out of the energy market." __________________________________________________ "From all appearance, Gazprom, which was headed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for eight years from 2000 to May 2008, has taken an audacious initiative. It could only have happened thanks to a strategic decision taken at the highest level in the Kremlin. In fact, Medvedev had traveled to Ashgabat on July 4-5 en route to the Group of Eight summit meeting in Hokkaido, Japan. " After 8 years of our leaders, whose history in oil, has taken us to war, leading us to believe we needed to rid the world of a madman, the real reason is competition for oil.

Oil, oil, oil.
All I'll need to believe you is one shred of evidence.
Just one.
Waiting...

re-read the first paragraph again.....
"The United States has suffered a huge defeat in the race for Caspian gas."

Interpreted to mean,"the U.S. destroyed another innocent little country in order to steal their oil, just like they did in Iraq. The unlimited free oil from Iraq, flowing to the U.S. today, will be combined with the new stolen gas from Georgia, & will make the U.S. unstoppable in their quest for brutal world domination".
I asked for evidence, EVIDENCE (not paranoia), that this is a clandestine effort by the U.S. to secretly topple a nation for the purpose of taking their resources.
Did history begin yesterday for you?

re-read the first paragraph again..... "The United States has suffered a huge defeat in the race for Caspian gas." That is not evidence, it is a statement of opinion. There is a difference.

It may very well be a fact, but to extrapolate that "therefore, the U.S. is secretly starting more wars-for-oil" is adolescent.
Or, Democratic.

Did history begin yesterday for you? Who said the US is toppling another nation? They have armed Georgia. This is strategic and another way to stay close to where the action is......just like in Iraq.

I wouldn't call it adolescent or Democratic......try realistic.....try global power, which is what is happening now between the super powers. They just haven't told us.

This is STILL a world governed by the aggressive use of force.
What is wrong with arming & protecting our allies?
And why should we be told everything that we do internationally?
I like the U.S. being very, very powerful in every way.
If you don't, OK.

Arming & protecting, I can understand. When it comes to financing, I want to know where my money goes, don't you?

Not all the time.
I believe that when we hire & train our forces, we should not micro-manage them as they do their work.
I do not automatically distrust our security forces.
Quite the contrary.

Look at it from Moscows perspective - it was Moscow (soviet union) that developed the oil and gas fields, and ran the pipelines. Only reasonable that Moscow wants to get it back after the fall of the USSR. Knowing even a little history can go a long way.
Same goes for Georgia - strategic materials that were exploited by money and technology from Moscow ane now Moscow wants it back. Not to mention the historic animosity between Georgians and Russians.
I know it is hard for you to accept Mink, but not everything is the fault of the US or Bush.
