You might note that this is 4 years old. A bunch of us screamed about it back then and were reviled as intolerant racists by the o, so tolerant, diverse, and inclusive left.

subdjoe, yes, I see it's older but I just got it. Does it always have to be a right, or left kind of thing?

subdjoe, yes, I see it's older but I just got it. Does it always have to be a right, or left kind of thing? When one side continually screams "RACIST" or "BIGOT" or "HOMOPHOBE" whenever it is opposed, then yes, it must. Until that 'wavelength' of the political spectrum stops using hate, division, and emotion rather than fact, truth, and reason it will stay that way.

The way I see it is in most cases the truth falls somewhere in middle of one sided opinions. I feel the same way about the right and left thing. Both sides have valid points, and there has to be a comfortable compromise in there somewhere.

Both sides have valid points, and there has to be a comfortable compromise in there somewhere. Where is the middle ground when those who say that affirmative action has had its day are reviled as racists? I don't see any middle ground there, JMO. Nor can I see a middle ground when I'm attacked as a misogynist for questioning abortion on demand, or sniggerinly called a "teabagger" for opposing the supposed health care reform bill that was recently passed, or any of the other hate speech so regularly hurled against any who stand up and say to the DNC "Wait a minute that just isn't going to work!"

subdjoe, as a general rule I don't take the opinions of others as gospel, or as an attack (unless it's deliberate). So what if someone challenged you?! Sometimes we can learn from others when we let go of the defensive reactions. Middle ground!

Sometimes we can learn from others when we let go of the defensive reactions. Middle ground! OK, I must be missing something, JMO. What the heck am I supposed to learn when the first thing that the left does when opposed is spout of with the epithets of Racist, etc. and regularly throws riots as "peaceful protests"? I'm not seeing anything to learn from that, other than that the left is very intolerant, undisciplined, and quite violent. I'm not seeing any lesson or middle ground.

subdjoe, both the right and left have their undesirable opinions, come on now. It seems to me if people get so caught up in those opinions nothing is getting resolved, and middle ground dissolves. Just go through the numerous posts in this forum to prove my point!
Recently on Facebook I reconnected with an old friend from Texas, I chuckled looking through her albums! All of the anti Obama, and Democratic party jokes, pictures etc! I don't have any of that stuff posted, but I thought oh-oh, please don't post any of that for my friends to see since yes, most are, well, not conservative! <shocking> Funny thing is, none of my other friends have any political commentary posted on Facebook. hhmmm I would HOPE if the subject of politics ever came up she would be open enough to see another side, but then again...
As Americans we need to find a way to work together without trying to prove the other right, or wrong (left/joke). While we are distracted engaging in that behavior those that wish us harm are busy devising a master plan to destroy us. I don't care if donkey said something bad to elephant last year, last month, whatever, get over it already.
It is my hope that if we stay true to our reasonable opinions and present them that way maybe we can find resolve and make some progress to find middle ground.

This was just emailed to me, I had been going to start a new thread with this, but decided that it fits quite nicely here to illustrate my point.
Where No One Locks The Door By Doug Patton May 4, 2010 Imagine you are a child growing up in a small town. You have always felt safe there. The crimes of big cities seem distant from your serene world, where no one ever locks the door. Then one night your next-door neighbors are murdered in their home, which is burned to the ground. Drawings of the suspects are printed in the newspaper. The sheriff says they speak a foreign language. No one in your town looks or sounds like that. Your parents gather the family together for a reassuring pep talk. "The men who did this will be brought to justice," your father assures you. "Until they are caught, I will protect you." Then your parents announce that the front and back doors of your home will not only remain unlocked; they will be left standing wide open. You are astonished. Murderers are out there -- loose! Why don't we just bolt the doors? Why doesn't the sheriff just stop people who look like them? Your mother says that would be "profiling." You don't understand what she means, but the way she says the word, it must be worse than what the murderers did. Miraculously, nothing happens for five nights. On the sixth night, you hear a noise downstairs. You wake your parents and follow your father down to the kitchen, where you discover a suspicious-looking man rummaging through your trash. He is mumbling in a foreign language. Your father opens the refrigerator and tells the man to take what he wants and to turn out the lights when he is finished. Amazed, you ask why he doesn't just throw this man out and lock the doors. He tells you that locked doors are not the way of your town. "Besides," he says, "do you want him to hate us?" Angry and confused, you go back to bed and listen to the sounds of the man in your family's kitchen. Over the next fourteen nights, six men wander into your house and take what they want. One night, you open your eyes to find one of them standing over your bed. In answer to your screams, your father simply puts his arm around the man and escorts him downstairs to the refrigerator. The next morning, your family discovers their home theater system is missing. Your mother shakes her head, while your father simply shrugs. On the second night of the third week, just before you fall asleep, you smell something that sends chills over every inch of your body. Gasoline! This time you don't wake your father. You reach for the phone and call the sheriff, who arrives just before one of the strange looking men in your living room lights a match. The men are arrested and taken to jail. The next morning, your father tells you that you were right all along. He announces that he is having a security system installed in your home immediately, which he does. That night, you hear someone trying to open the back door. When they are unsuccessful, they start yelling and pounding on the house. When you open the door to go to school the next day, your back yard is filled with angry people carrying signs expressing how unfair your family is for locking their doors and installing an alarm system. They scream at you, saying that you and your family are bigots, that you hate people who are different, that you are a "racist." You don't know what that means, but you know that life in your town will never be the same again. --- Doug Patton is a former speechwriter and public policy advisor who now works as a freelance writer. His weekly columns appear in newspapers across the country and on various Internet websites, including Human Events Online and GOPUSA.com, where he is a senior writer and state editor. Now, which side of the political spectrum is the one most likely to ? Which side consistently brings out the charge of racism or hate of some group? HINT: It isn't the conservatives and moderates. JMO, that is, and has been the go to position of the left for 40 years. And some of us have gotten damned fed up with it and are hitting back rather than trying to continue to rely only on facts.

If the Arizona law that enforces Federal law regarding ILLEGAL immigrants is considered illegal because it targets "ethnicity", they that should also be true of "affirmative action" laws.

If the Arizona law that enforces Federal law regarding ILLEGAL immigrants is considered illegal because it targets "ethnicity", they that should also be true of "affirmative action" laws. You do know that people like Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Clinton, and of course, the former jr. sen. from IL will call you an intolerant racist for saying that.
