Seems to me the Euro is significantly stronger than our dollar. Also, Western Europe isn't bogged down in a trillion dollar war. So now who is more likely to go bankrupt? Our dollar is weak, hence the apparent strength of the Euro. And while Western Europe might not be bogged down in a trillion dollar war, they are bogged down into tens, perhaps hundreds, of trillions of dollars in cradle to grave socialism. The average working Euro is way too busy being concerned about his 32 work week and six weeks paid vacation per year. Not to mention his government secured pension, his government paid for and strictly rationed health care and all the other government, hence tax paid, goodies that he gets "for free". Meanwhile Mr. Euro is not producing children at nearly enough numbers to provide sufficient future workers who would, by derivation, be paying for their parent's generation to have their benefits. The governments of Sweden and the Netherlands, to name two prime examples, are teetering on the brink of insolvency under the weight of social mandates they can't pay for and can't tax any more to fund because the functional tax rates in Euro land are already double and triple what we bear in some cases. The British and French are closing in behind them at an alarming rate. Some point to the Norwegians as a model of success. Their socialism is both generous and pragmatic. Norway enjoys the highest standard of living in all of Europe. There are two reasons for that.... a) They don't belong to the EU and have remained on their own currency. b) Oil, as Norway controls the majority of North Sea reserves and has built a massive industry to support it. So based on all that, just what do you suppose happens to those economies and those nations when there are no taxpayers and only tax takers left? I suppose when that happens you'll be agitating for us to go an help our cousins in Europe on top of the cradle to grave socialism you, the Democrats and Barack want us to launch here? Face the facts that history teaches you Suanterelle... socialism has been a failure every single time and place where it's been tried. So why, pray tell, should the United States with it's robust and diverse economy put our success, and our people, in such peril? Oh reeeeeeeeeeeally? Care to share some documentation that backs your guarantee? You may find it difficult given the large and growing number of Canadians who cross the border to get treatments and procedures, life saving ones quite often, that are not available to them at home. Unless they are willing to wait for the government to decide on the rationing plan if it's their turn yet. That is the future for medicine in this country under any form of socialized, single payer plan. If you believe otherwise then your head is planted firmly in the sands of Utopia.
