A very succinct explanation from Prof. Terry J. Lovell:
Sorta puts everything into focus, doesn't it? How can the Democrat Party take such a stand, both against existing federal law and against the citizens of the State of Arizona? Is it just because the Dems are pandering to the Latino vote? Say it isn't so

For the skeptics who want to dismiss Prof. Lovell as just another xenophobic ranter, here is the section of US Code he cites: It seems to me that the major objection to the Arizona law was that police would engage in "profiling" and stop everyone who was brown and demand to see their papers. Well, it seems to me that police are in the business of profiling; otherwise, they'd be knocking on your door every time there was a crime committed. The police in Arizona probably have a pretty good idea by now of what an illegal immigrant looks like. If they stop a car full of 20-something Latinos for speeding or an equipment volation, and want to see some ID, I think that's prudent police work.

In a reasonable world the State of Arizona would be able to cite the federal law in court, and get the case thrown out as being without merit.
In a reasonable world, that is.

Like I always say, "Be reasonable, do it my way!"
