Snyder v. Phelps et alI don't agree with the small minded, attention seeking bigots of that cult, but the Court was right. Either any peaceful, or at least non-violent, protest/demonstration is protected, or none are. ADDED: I will also say that I agree with Alito on his dissenting opinion that the intentional infliction of mental pain should not be totally without hazard. If you inflict such abuse on a spouse, or at something like a Gay Pride event, or at minorities, you would likely be arrested for hate speech and such, and subject to civil action. These Westboro cultist thugs should be subject to the same liability.

your absolutely right with your ADDED comments, joe. let's show up with signs that say "GOD HATES FAGS!" at the next gay parade in SF. remember to bring your body armor.
i will happily volunteer (and travel within reason) to help build a barrier between funeral services for soldiers and these westboro loons. anyone know who I can contact for that? I don't ride a motorcycle so the patriot guard riders isn't an option.

We must observe the Constitution here regardless if we agree with the ruling, so long as the protesters are non-violent despite their stupid opinions!

My GAWD! She admitted that protests need to be non-violent! Kind of goes against the lefts play book. Mink, are you starting to move towards center and getting ready to denounce the hate and violence that the left regularly uses?

Good grief subdjoe. I'm not going to debate what a protest should or shouldn't be. However, our right to assemble peacefully is in the Constitution and although I disagree with the WBC, it is within their right........but if it ever becomes violent, I will take a stand.
BTW, I haven't changed my views at all......it only shows you enjoy categorizing people/groups.
