We prosecuted them; they went to jail; their leaders were totally unimpressed.
Next stop? 9/11/2001.
If we had done to the first group what Gen. Pershing did to the Muslim terrorists in The Phillipines in the 1920's, it is possible the 2nd attack would not have ever occured.
What did he do?
He executed them, then had them buried in an undisclosed location; their bodies stuffed into pig carcasses.
Extreme? Yes.
Did Pershing have any more trouble from the Muslim terrorists? Uh, no.
Moral of the story? If you face brutal & merciless enemies, be more brutal & merciless than them.

Fair enough, so Clinton should have stuffed those terrorists instead of us keeping them alive in the pokey.
That leaves us to why is bin laden is still on the loose? Now, we have two presidents who let him go.

Nice story about Blackjack Pershing, but it never happened. urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_black_jack_pershing.htmThe only way to stop the spread of radical Islamic terrorism is to keep the pressure on all of the groups that teach this type of hate whether it is taught in a madrases in bumf**k Pakistan or Modesto, CA. After the Trade towers attack in 1993, the bombings of our embassy's in Africa, the attack on the USS Cole, nothing was done. 911 was the wake up call, and we had better make sure we aren't lulled to sleep with the passage of time with no further attacks.

No, the 1993 bombing was the wake up call. We just kept hitting 'snooze.'

The so-called resolve Bush said we would have day after 9/11 never happened. Sure we went into afghanistan, but the beeline to Iraq soon distracted the resolve or rather it was redefined. All of a sudden, people actually thought Iraq attacked us......sigh

Nice story about Blackjack Pershing, but it never happened. All too true, but you may want to read up in depth on what Major General Leonard Wood did with the Moro (Muslim) Insurrection in the Phillipines circa 1903-1906. Most specifically the Battle of Bud Dajo. As an aside Wood, you also might recall, was the brigade commander above Col. Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders in Cuba in 1898. Then Captain John J. Pershing was a company commander with the 10th Cavalry, which went up San Juan Hill alongside Roosevelt's First US Volunteers. Wood's forces killed Moro by the hundreds, if not several thousands over the length of the campaign. It was brutal fighting with no quarter given or received. Wood's soldiers coined a phrase at the time that to solve the Moro issue one had only to "Krag 'em and bag 'em". Of course the experience of Wood's forces against the Moro with their issue .38 caliber revolvers led directly to the development of the .45 ACP cartridge and the eventual adoption of the Pistol, Caliber.45, Model of 1911, so something good came of it.

Krag em and bag em... the Krag being most likely Krag-Jørgensen Springfield Model 1892-99 using the new smokeless powder.30-40 Krag round.
It was replaced by the Springfield M1903.
