President Obama is not a fan of America’s suburbs. Indeed, he intends to abolish them. With suburban voters set to be the swing constituency of the 2012 election, the administration’s plans for this segment of the electorate deserve scrutiny. Obama is a longtime supporter of “regionalism,” the idea that the suburbs should be folded into the cities, merging schools, housing, transportation, and above all taxation. To this end, the president has already put programs in place designed to push the country toward a sweeping social transformation in a possible second term. The goal: income equalization via a massive redistribution of suburban tax money to the cities.

Efforts to discourage driving and to press development into densely packed cities are justified by reference to fears of global warming. Leaders of the crusade against “sprawl” very consciously use environmental concerns as a cover for their redistributive schemes.

The centerpiece of the Obama administration’s anti-suburban plans is a little-known and seemingly modest program called the Sustainable Communities Initiative. The “regional planning grants” funded under this initiative — many of them in battleground states like Florida, Virginia, and Ohio — are set to recommend redistributive policies, as well as transportation and development plans, designed to undercut America’s suburbs. Few have noticed this because the program’s goals are muffled in the impenetrable jargon of “sustainability,” while its recommendations are to be unveiled only in a possible second Obama term.

future transportation funding and asked to
select their top five priorities. One option was
“other” to allow participants to write priorities
not already listed on comment cards.

any type is a big black money pit – redistribution
of wealth on a European model never

Comments
Participants who took the survey were asked what one
thing in their neighborhood (and in the Bay Area) they
would like to see changed, and what one thing they
would most like to keep. Some participants also submitted
general comments on a separate comment card.
Below are the most common responses and comments
in no particular order.
• Need more and improved public transit (including a
rail system) – both in the North Bay and from the
north in to San Francisco
• Need to find ways to decrease local/freeway traffic
(increased, reliable and affordable public transit
could assist with this)
• Need more open space and parks for families and
children to have a place for outdoor recreation
• Basic security is important, and gang violence is a
concern
• Residents want safe streets, sidewalks and bus
stops for pedestrians and transit riders, and want to
see improvements in these areas
• Affordability is an issue, both for homes and for
transportation (transit, parking, moving violation
fees, and bridge tolls)
• Need more bike lanes and bicycle funding

In my neighborhood, I would like to change undeveloped lands and turn them into parks, or recreation centers for children. In the Bay
Area, increase roads with high-speed access to reduce traffic during rush hours.
There is nothing I would change because it is a very quiet area. Everything should stay the same.
Walking, that there won't be a lot of crime.
Conflict among gangs and racism against Hispanics.
Increase cleanliness.

Found this about Six Flags New Orleans, there are some interesting comments on other web site blogs.

Obama wants the suburbs and middle class America to look like this. His vision of all of us living in the cities will come true if he is relected for 4 more years.

Being from N.O. I know a litlle about this. the reason the park did not open is Six Flags backed out of the lease and has filed bankruptcy for this location. The City know owns the property and the resort. This was a fantastic park we had season tickets for 3 years my kids loved it. The park was originally named Jazz Land then it was sold to six flags 2years after it opened in 2003. N.O. The City put it up in a auction a few months ago and they rejected all bids. The plan is to turn it into a outlet mall but i don’t see that happening anytime soon.

This is our country now. I wish I had the energy to care, but Detroit, Chicago, the empty malls, strip shopping centers and the Libs just keep on. The next story is a black 20yr. old that sexually assaults his grandmother because he couldn’t get a girlfriend. The black panthers are ranting about killing whites, and the pres. doesn’t speak out. I could go on and on, but the people of this country are so stupid now, they will just keep voting for this lier in chief.
