This email leaves out the only reason it was a good start for bush. Clinton left the country with a surplus....bush dwindled it, which is why the country voted what right wingers they could from Congress in 2006, and the new Congress really didn't have that whole year or enough of a majority to make progress.....but the right wingers will still complain, go figure?

This email leaves out the only reason it was a good start for (B)ush. Clinton left the country with a surplus And, we have the Republican Congress under Newt Gingrich to thank for that. Even you, Mink, will remember how hard Clinton/Gore fought the first balanced budget the Congress sent to them - even to the point of shutting down the government rather than agreeing to it. Once Clinton saw that there was popular support for a balanced budget, he jumped in front of the parade, like it was always his idea. You will recall that the country was in a recession at the end of 2000 and the beginning of 2001. This fact is verifiable here. You will recall Janet Reno's lawsuit against Microsoft, the final judgement of which caused the NASDAQ to drop over 70% in one year! Not only did Bush have to deal with the obstacles that the Left threw in front of him during the transition period, and the shifting majority in the Senate (remember Jim Jeffords?) and the resistance from the Democrats to the appointments he sent up to the Hill, but also the country suffered its worst attack on American soil since 1812. Other than that, it was a breeze. WAIT A MINUTE!!! You have constatly blamed Bush (note the capital B) for the failure to anticipate and defend from the 9/11 attacks, an event that occurred just 8 months after he was sworn in, and now you say that the Democrat Congress has not had enough time to to "right the wrongs"? Mink, they've been in office 20 months now - that's plenty of time in your book. "Enough of a majority"? You mean, to ram their programs through, like Pelosi just tried with her Sham Energy Bill?
