Hmmm.....two posts and passing judgement here already. You might try a bit of watch and learn. Oh, and by the way, I had a good little trip. Even got on TV a bit. <G> I had been to Fresno for the "Civil War Revisitied" thing they put on every year. Friday is a school day for the kids to come and get a little info up close and personal. Got up at about quarter till 5 a.m. on Friday, was just about to set the can on the fire to get coffee made and one of the organizers came over and asked if any of us could be interviewed for the morning news. "Sure, bring them over!" "Oh, they are set up over by Kearney Mansion (ca. 200 yards away). And can we fire a cannon?" Right. So I called for a scratch crew - woke people up. Drove the gun over, got her off the trailer, got her sited, loaded, and let the reporter pull the lanyard. He got one hell of a grin on his face. Then loaded her again and let the organizer fire the gun. SHE got a big grin too. She even brought coffee for us later since we hadn't had time to make any. Had fun, increased my carbon footprint. Made lots of noise. Trained a new cannoneer. Talked with one guy who worked in the ordnance dept. of some big company. He said that everything I was saying was spot on. He even gave me a hint to where I could find 3" freeze plugs. All in all, a good time. Oh! The grand high mucky-mucks of the historical society wanted us to do a night fire as part of the fireworks. The Federals fired their 4 guns by piece from the right. Then our CS Marines fired their 3 mortars behind our gunline by piece from the left, and our 10 guns went by piece from the right. DAMN that was fun. Reloaded and did it again for the big finale'. Only problem was no one told the Cav. that we were going to do that. The horses spooked. Got clamed down, then our second cannonade started. One horse almost rolled onto a guy. I'm hopeing that something gets on youtube.

Nope, it was Aero(something). I don't remember the full name. Mostly they built 20mm & 30mm stuff. It was nice to have a pro give me feedback. Most of what I know is from books and online, so having a guy with hands on, real world experience was nice.

Oh, I see. I just wondered because I worked with guys that had attended events similar to this and had scientific answers as they talked at the water cooler......
I used to love listening to it.

Cool photo one of my friends sent me. i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff30/subdjoe/kearneynightfire.jpg The grand high poo-bahs of the Fresno Historical Society asked if we could do a night fire during the fireworks display. No way we could turn it down. The Federals fired first, 4 guns by piece from the right. We answered with - 3 mortars behind our gunline by piece form the left and then 10 guns by piece from the rigth. Then the fireworks went off. There was a pause just before the finale' and we did it again. We all used double or triple charges - we don't often get to fire at night.
