For what it's worth she was nominated a number of months ago and it made a pretty good splash then. This latest story concerns her assumption of her new billet and entry into the office of her fourth star. Not trying to take away from the impact of the event, which is terrific, but rather putting more background on it.
This will also be General Dunwoody's last billet as the law limits the number of four star officers to a specific quantity of billets and for specific time periods. The only further move she could make would be to deputy Army Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff or to the Joint Chiefs but she is not eligible for any of those billets as she is not a combat arm officer.
On another board I frequent I responded to leftist claims of Bush pandering by researching a timeline demonstrating how women in the military have advanced more and acheived many more milestones under Republican presidents than under Democrats. In doing that research I found it an interesting counterpoint given the overwhelming identity of Democrats as the party of feminist advancement.
Turns out it isn't necessarily so as relates to the military. Go figure.

congrats, indeed! what an accomplishment. i'm sure N.O.W. will be proclaiming the great achievement of this great woman any time now. ooops, i forgot. N.O.W. only supports those women who fit their agenda. this was clearly illustrated with sarah palin. where was the great N.O.W. when that great woman nearly became VP?
