We bought a used 2001 Tundra (SE-5?) last year and are very happy with it. It only had about 80k miles on it, so just broken in. V-8, hauled the cannon, our camping gear and about 500 pound of gear for others to Gettysburg and back with no problems. Cruised at about 70 most of the way once we got out of CA. Hit 80 for a stretch in NE, but milage really sucked. Optimum MPG was at about 67 or 68.
Now I use it for work. Carry tools, materials, pull a 12' trailer full of dirt, no problem. Only draw back is it only has a 6ft. bed.

i think you'll be happy with the f-150. i've known several ram owners and while it seemed fun for a while they ended up having many problems. this is my second f-150 and i've never had so much as a bulb burn out! the tundra i think would also be a good choice. i was glad to see toyota ( a reliable manufacturer) come up with a full sized truck. it has good looks, is built well, and should last. i wouldn't be caught dead in that funny looking honda thing-a-ma-truck. You mean the Honda Ridgeline? Yep, it's one ugly duckling. I'm not a fan of roller-skate truck hybrids, or puddle jumper SUVs. When I go the truck or SUV route, I want the real thing. Full size in a truck, or at least mid size in an SUV.

Surefire, you said:I think that's true of most things. I thought instantly of coffee, I'll take the full caffeine with whole FAT milk, and non-alcoholic wine, and beer, NO THANKS! It seems that our desires are satisfied when we get the "real thing" not a substitute, or at least that's how I feel! And, often the "real thing" can be bad for you, but if it's in moderation... I don't know, buy a "real truck" and don't drive as far if it's a gas guzzler, and buy a Prius for the long trips. Ok, I'm kidding, sort of...

A glass of wine a night, 1 cup of coffee or tea in the mornings, etc. In terms of cars, I could never do a Prius. They're too uncomfortable. I would go the Camry Hybrid route if I want good milage without sacrificing comfort. I've never found a small car that is comfortable. Hopefully by the time I'm ready for a truck or SUV they will have improved the milage on them.

Oh boy, 150 mile range (and maybe 20% more) and then 8 hours to recharge. Now, is that 150 miles with a max load? How about on hills? I would bet that in real life, that 150 mile range is under 100 miles. And it has no carry capacity to speek of. Yeah, real great. Added: Let me know when they get one that has at least a 300 mile range, can haul 4 people in reasonable comfort, haul 1500 pounds, and recharge in under an hour.

The Prius is estimated to only have a 100,000 mile life span. A Hummer, which is more environmentally friendly in reality, has a 300,000 mile life span. You can see the article in my post Prius outdoes Hummer for environmental damage. Heck, the nickel extracted from the Earth alone to use in the batteries of the Prius does so much environmental damage that they test off world vehicles there because the whole place is devoid of life due to the increase in acid rain.

Moondog, inconvenient truths like these are conveniently dismissed by the rabid Left. You should know better than to confront them with facts that strike at the foundation of their deeply-held beliefs. If Algore said the Prius is good, then, by God, it's good and no one will ever change that.
