So, what do you all think of that situation in Redding? Shut down the school paper because of a photo of a burning American flag.
My thoughts? Yeah, I don't like it, but if someone is intolerant enough to burn an American flag, let 'em. Freedom of expression and all that.
I just wonder what the outcry would have been if they had show a gay pride flag or a Mexican flag being burned.

The paper shouldn't have been shut down.

We could always find out. Yeah, we could. But I would almost be willing to bet what we would be arrested for illegal demonstration (no permit), public endagerment (open fire), and some sort of hate crime.

I would ask why you are doing it? Just testing the system? Or as a display of hatred for another group of people?

"I just wonder what the outcry would have been if they had show a gay pride flag or a Mexican flag being burned."- You would have been instantly charged with a hate crime. Not to mention having to endure the speeches of the ACLU.

I don't think there is any "crime" there. I think you'd just embarrass yourself.

Just exercising my First amenedment rights to free expression, Saunterelle. Anything wrong with that? And to see just how intolerant the Oh! so tolerant, diverse, and inclusive left really is. Might could be we would see what good, non-violent, we can talk everything out, pacifists they are, too.
Saunterelle wrote:"I don't think there is any "crime" there. I think you'd just embarrass yourself. "
Really? How so? Was it an embarassment for the people who burned the American flag? Was it an embarassment for that so-called artist who was drawing public funds (NEA) to put a cruicfix in a jar of urine and call it art? You seem to have problems with people expressing opinions other than what the DNC says are allowed.

The school officials are treading on shaky ground. It was just earlier this year that the Novato Schools lost a case before the state Supreme Court for trying to suppress the school paper for, basically, being un-PC.
I'm with the paper kids on this one. The school needs to rethink this decision.

I must have missed something here. Is there a link? Was this on the local news (no more channel 50) or PD?
Personally, I'm shocked that subdjoe supports burning the flag.....

It was on the Wednesday PD online. Look down the right hand side and you may still find it. Redding schools is what to look for.
Why are you suprised, Mink? Because I will defend the rigth of someone to do something I don't like? Sorry, I'm not progressive enough to let my emotions dictate what rights I want others to exercise. I have always been a staunch supporter of the Bill of Rights and the rest of the Constitution. And I don't "support" it. I personally hate it. But, it is a protected political expression, and my personal opinion doesn't matter. See, moderates and true conservatives recognize that to protect our rights means to protect ALL of our rights, not just the ones we like. It is a shame that the left can't do the same. Progressives keep adding to the power of the State and taking away from the People.

Subdjoe: "Progressives keep adding to the power of the State and taking away from the People."
Not that I agree with terrorists(if they were), but isn't that what Bush did when he took away the rights of detainees?
