Many in the South are clinging to an era when there was rampant segregation. Where do you come up with this bullshit?

Do you simply ignore the displays of "Old Glory?"

What displays of the American Flag are you speaking of?

So, basically you are displaying your lack of knowledge here. If it is true that you meant the Flag of the Confederation of States, then you have a genuine lack of knowledge about American History. Since I do not have the time to discuss your obvious lack of understanding and address your PC stance on a symbol of State Rights, I will end this particular discussion with you. It is clear that you do not think in a critical fashion or consider that modern propaganda about a flag may so far off the mark that it is revisionist to the point of lies.

For many African Americans it is a blatant symbol of slavery. Many in the South know this but don't care to address it. Just another example of how racism still lingers in the South.

it amazes me how someone can be so ignorant of most things and still argue like he knows what the hell he's talking about.
santurelle, you expose yourself daily as one who takes absolutely NO time to research ANYTHING at all. yet you pop into these threads and toss your ridiculous verbal grenades and then when someone slaps you with the truth you scurry away.
if you want to play in the big leagues you must come up with something more substantial than..... "GA is racist!"
i'd like to see you remain here because you are only one of two lefties who have had the guts to stick around more than a day or two but cheese whiz man, you gotta do better than this.
btw, the stars and bars may remind some blacks of slavery but to many southerners (black and white) it means something totally different. the rainbow used to mean something to mean until queers co-opted it for their own benefit. should we ban all rainbows???

Difference being: Rainbows never stood for the oppression of a race of people. How would you feel if a neighborhood hung swastikas on their front doors? Not to good I imagine. Georgia has integrated the image of the Confederate flag into their state flag. You would think they would want to move past that ugly blight on America's history rather than celebrate it.

TNG, were you aware that the battle for States Rights was an ugly blight?

Whoops, I meant the Confederate flag (leaving aside the fact that you rarely see a Confederate flag, mostly you see the battle flag of the Army of Tennessee or the Naval Ensign.) You mean people being proud of their heritage? People, including blacks, who want to honor and remember their ancestors who fought againt Federal tyranny? Those displays? Funny how everyone except whites, especially whites of mostly Scots/Irish ancestory, is allowed to be proud of their heritage. Take a look at this: www.forrestsescort.org/blacks_files/black6.jpgI would imagine that the decendents of those black soldiers are proud of their sacrifice. I know it is worthless to try, but Saunterelle, see if you can put aside your bigotry and check out some of the stuff here: southernheritage411.com/Mr. Edgerton had worked for the NAACP, and got kicked out because he both supported the 1st amendment rights of a student, and because he was proud of his black Confederate grandfather. added: Oh, and I know several blacks who reenact in Confederate units. Why? Because their free BLACK ancestors fought for the Confederacy. Would you call them racist for flying the Stars and Bars, the Stainless Banner, or the Southern Cross battle flag?

For many African Americans it is a blatant symbol of slavery. Many in the South know this but don't care to address it. Just another example of how racism still lingers in the South. So, you are saying that slavery was ONLY in the south? And ONLY under the Stars and Bars, Stainless Banner, or the 3rd National? That slavery DID NOT EXIST under the Stars and Stripes? That it was only southerners who built or converted ships for the slave trade, financed it, manned and capitaned the ships? The only reason that "For many African Americans it is a blatant symbol of slavery." is the lies and propoganda that has been pushed since Reconstruction.

Difference being: Rainbows never stood for the oppression of a race of people. no, rainbows always stood for happiness, wishes, and childhood dreams. now rainbows = homos. i have a t-shirt that has a rainbow on it (symbolizing the hawaiian islands) but i never wear it around here because everyone always looks at the rainbow then looks at me as if i'm a homo. maybe i should file a petition or law suit against homos. i think the co-opting of rainbows is oppressive to the entire heterosexual community. i would wonder what they meant by it. seeing that it is 3000 years old and the oldest known symbol in the world. to many cultures it represent good luck and life. just because the germans co-opted it in the last century doesn't mean that the swastika has always stood for oppression of certain races. remember the rainbow??? For Buddhists and Hindus, the swastika is a very religious symbol that is commonly used. Chirag Badlani shares a story about one time when he went to make some photocopies of some Hindu Gods for his temple. While standing in line to pay for the photocopies, some people behind him in line noticed that one of the pictures had a swastika. They called him a Nazi.
Unfortunately, the Nazis were so effective at their use of the swastika emblem, that many do not even know any other meaning for the swastika. i wonder how you feel when in a neighborhood with lots of gang graffitti and mexican flags on the front porches.? i still see che guevara and malcom x t-shirts and flags. shouldn't they be outlawed? afterall, che was a mass murderer and malcom incited violence against whites. why are they excused? you would think you would know that GA bowed downed to the whiners almost 8 years ago and REMOVED the stars and bars from their flag. but, then again that would require a bit of research on your part to know that. the stars and bars were added in 1956 and removed jan. 31, 2001. as i've advised you before..... just a tiny bit of research will save you much embar assment in this forum. here's your homework for tonight: swastika link: history1900s.about.com/cs/swastika/a/swastikahistory.htmGA state flag link: www.netstate.com/states/symb/flags/ga_flag.htmi'll expect a report on my desk in the morning. .
