Mink sez...Mink, I did your research for you. The FBI publishes crime data summarized by year and type of violent crime. Except for a little bubble in 2004-06, violent crime has been steadily decreasing since 1987, the beginning of the dataset. According to The American Rifleman: Would you care to reconsider your earlier claim? Even if you disallow the summary that The American Rifleman published, due to its source, you must still admit that the data on the FBI website (you did look, didn't you?) doesn't contradict it. Another liberal myth dispersed.

Mink sez...: Let's parse that string phrase by phrase. - we have seen much better times
You were thinking, perhaps, of the Carter presidency?
- people riding bicycles more than last year
All those Kaiser commercials encouraging people to exercise more are starting to pay off.
- the "For Sale" signs on many homes
Ah, yes, the 5% of the people who either lied on their mortgage application or bought more house than they could afford got caught gambling in real estate.
- less job opportunities to the new graduate
They have to compete with the illegals for the starter jobs. And, guess what? The illegals get the jobs because they have a better work ethic.
- if you have the PD, you will see more articles expressing outrage
Did you ever notice that the PeeDee just excels at publishing stories that cast the Republican administration in a bad light? Does the fact that it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NY Times have anything to do with that? When the real estate market was going up, the PeeDee lamented the lack of affordable housing. Now that the real estate market is coming back down, have you seen any articles celebrating the return of affordability to the housing market?
Another liberal myth dispersed.

Gaffney, if my observation troubled you enough to research, good for you, however, I stand by what I observe. A poor economy encourages crime. No research can contradict that fact.

I have to agree with Mink, poor economic times do lead to an increase in crime, and that is backed up by USDOJ studies. What the crime stats show is that the economy isn' t bad.
But, to bring it back onto the topic rather than the Bush-bashing that mink wants - So, what is up with all the stabbings, etc? I thought that all the anti-gun laws were supposed to eliminate violent crime. Look at the studies by released by VPC (which doesn;t give a good goddam about violent crime, it is an arm of the powerful and well finanaced anti civil rights lobby headed by Brady, Schumer, DiFi, and the Clintons)

Lookie back at both the reagan/bush 41 terms and see the economy. Poor economies encourage crime. Added: TNG just went to research That is funny. Both the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute would disagree about the Reagan Economy. Job growth was around 9.5 million mostly high end jobs, not burger flipping like under Clinton, which is how he reached 17.5 million jobs. However, no one ever talks about the .com bubble burst under Clinton, which caused a lot of his jobs to evaporate at the end of his term.

You remember what the biggest growth was in under Reagan? Computer jobs. High end jobs in technology and a boom in personal computers. That is what the Reagan era ushered in. Clinton's era ushered out .com jobs, which were not real stable, because the internet, which was created by Al Gore, did not pan out the way anyone expected. Even the DOJ Report Agrees that Reagan's policies were successful in helping the poorly performing job sectors left behind by Carter (Obama).

Wow, I just saw a poll that had congressional approval ratings down to 13%, that is the lowest in history, ever. Democrats...

the living embodiment of insanity: dems continuing to re-elect the same worthless congressmen and expecting things to [glow=red,2,300] change[/glow].
