Any of the Windsor folks know anything about this? It's supposed to be a Co-Housing complex that's going in on a 5 acre lot that runs between Hembree and Robbins Park.
Our street dead-ends up to this empty lot and theirs been talk about them linking our street up to the street on the other side of the empty lot, thus creating a 'through' street. I'm on the fence about this one.
For one, I'm not familiar enough with co-housing to either be in favor, or be worried about it.
Secondly, if they continue our street through, it will probably cause more traffic. However, there may be one glimmer of silver lining here. The 20 year old punk who lives at the end of my street has a lot of friends who love to drive very large and loud diesel trucks. They are always backing down our street and making a bunch of noise. This is of course after they've sat in their truck beds at the dead-end smoking enough weed to get the whole street stoned. Maybe if the street goes through, the end of my street won't be used as a personal parking lot for the punks.
Back on topic though...anyone know what co-housing is? I have visions of Hippy Communes running in my head, but I'm sure that's off base.

I saw mention of cohousing on TV recently. Neighbors shared a common backyard, washrooms,clothesline...etc. Here's a link of a description: www.search.com/reference/CohousingYou may be right, it may deter the punks. I'm just wondering why they want more housing???

yep, that sounds like a hippie flop house situation to me. if i were you digger i'd call u-haul right now to reserve a truck. if you think you had problems before you are in for a shock if this thing gets built. here's a link: www.cohousing.org/what_is_cohousingthe fact that the concept came from denmark should be your first red flag. here are some worrisome phrases from the site: “living community”
“improve the world, one neighborhood at a time.”
a place “where lives are simplified, the earth is respected, diversity is welcomed
the aim is to have “a minimal impact on the earth and create a place in which all residents are equally valued
the goal is “to explore and model innovative approaches to ecological and social sustainability.”man, if that doesn't scare the crap out of you i don't know what will.

Well TNG, I really hope we don't get the hippy lot. We'll see. Since my lay off, we've lost 60% of our family income. If I don't find a job by summer, I may not have to worry about the trippy hippies moving in down the street cause I'll be looking to get out of my house. Sigh.

I doubt there would be enough trippy hippies to fill up the housing. But I can guess who might end up being a majority of the tenants, though. And I suspect it will be a frequent location for visits from Windsor PD.

Gee, that's just wonderful. Windsor has been threatening to build there for two years. Recently, there's been increased surveyor activity and they've tagged some of the trees for removal and posted updated plans via a pdf on the town website.
I really hope this doesn't turn into a meth flophouse or the like. We already have a lot of foot traffic of shady characters going down our street and into the 5 acre lot. Most of the time it's teens going to smoke dope. Sometimes we get some gang bangers who decide to tag the fences back there. Don't know why, no one can see it...which is just as well. I just thought they did it where the most people can see it.
My son used to ride his bike over there with his friends until some older teens decided it was a great place to hang out and smoke dope. I don't let him go there anymore.

Personally, I don't know why they expect anyone to be able to afford a house, even an economic cohousing unit, in this economy.
I remember when plans for Town Green and the units by the high school were in their infant stages. I was down on both, but it has improved the area immensely. The punks and gangbanger activity has nearly disappeared, which may be why they find your area a "comfort zone"........sigh

Wading through that bilge you see that the concept is nothing more than the good old fashioned neighborhood and community center dressed up amd kitted out with a socialist agenda.
Looks like the social engineers and progressives have discovered old fashioned American living, but stripped it of it traditon and values and put in socialism. Big woop.

Needless to say, I'm not overly excited about it any way you add it up. Don't see why people can't live as a community in the neighborhood they already live in. Whether we get hippies, druggies or whatever, I'll be hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
