I thought you liked guns.

I like guns. I like knives. I like knives on guns. I like the singleshot boarding pistol/cutlass combination. I lke LeMats. But a bayonet on a semi-auto is just plain wrong. The configuratin of the pistol is such that you can't use the knife effectively. And, if you have to draw, you likely won't have time to put the bayonet on.

It is wrong... I have to agree with you on that one Joe. Back in the days of powder and flint the pistols held one shot, period, and in a close quarters fight were utterly useless once that shot was discharged. That made the idea of a pistol sword, or cutlass pistol made some sense. And for those who are interested in such an old classic, they are available as kits for the do it yourselfer to build at home.... Now the pistol in the link that Joe supplied holds at least a dozen shots, maybe more, and reloads in a flash. Tactically putting that on there is an abomination. If you have to resort to an edged weapon then you have no business with your pistol in your hand because, assumptively, it's empty or otherwise out of commission and you don't go hands on and stay hands on with something that can be leveraged out of your hand. Besides... wasting the practicality of the dustcover rail, which can be used for mounting a bright light, an aiming laser or both in a combo unit, with that is something even the dopiest mall ninja is likely not going to do.

Actually, they were heavy enough and big enough that they made right fine clubs.
I'm wondering what that bayonet does re; guns with bayonet lugs. Iffen you know what I mean.

You mean relative to the defunct Clinton "Assault Weapon" ban?

Or CAs intact one. Or the new and improved Federal version that I'm sure we will see soon.

Or CAs intact one. Or the new and improved Federal version that I'm sure we will see soon. I thought that's what you meant.... bayonet lug is not an "evil feature" under California law. Those were only evil under the now defunct Clinton ban. The new upper receiver unit I will be taking delivery of in the next couple of days has a lug and is perfectly legal in California.

Ah! Thanks. I though that the lug was one of the features that could make it an AW. You know, one from column A, one from column B.

A weapon for those that just can't decide.

Guns are only good for aggressors in most cases. A knife is much harder to detect and is often much more deadly then a gun. A study has actually been done with 81 Law Enforcement Officers participating. In that study they would each confront a person who was apparently attempting to break into a house. He was armed only with a knife, but it was concealed. In every case but one the officers were wounded severely before they could even draw their weapon. The one who drew his weapon would have shot the suspect but still been cut.
