Something that's much needed in America. It's pathetic that schools are forced to have Coke and cookie vending machines is to get enough money.

Strange, I missed where the schools are "forced" to put in vending machines. As for having enough money, maybe if they went back to teaching the basics rather than engaging in social engineering, they would not be strapped for funds.
If I got a note like that, I would be down at the school the next day telling them that it is not their place to tell me how to feed my child (something like that did happen, concerning fasting during Lent, and I was in their faces the next day citing the free exercise clause). If they persisted, I would take it to the district level (didn't quite have to go that far). The State is taking far too much parental authority onto itself, and dictating to the parents far too much.

I have a lot of respect for Jamie Oliver with his good intentions, however, kids are kids. It won't make a difference if the parents pack a healthy lunch or not. Kids will trade, sell or dump the lunch. I'm not sure what the UK does, but if they have a good exercise program which has been close to zilch here, they needn't worry too much.
I wonder if the UK has the same childhood diabetes rise we have?

Yeah I did not know that School Districts are held at gunpoint by "Coca Cola" and "PepsiCo" but if that is the case......well.... And about the MONEY. Hey I have a wonderful idea, you know ALL THOSE CHILDREN HERE LESS THAN LEGALLY? Get them OUT of the school system and there is your money....

the problem is all the WASTE in school districts. we spend the most money on schools but turn out the dumbest kids and all the liberals want to do is throw MORE money away. money is not the answer.

Now how does my statement make me a "communist" or "neo-socialist?!" Are you against putting taxpayer money into our schools? You throw our those extreme labels for anyone you disagree with. Quit crying wolf.
The truth is, we don't put enough money into our public schools, teachers aren't paid enough, and schools are forced to line their hallways with coke machines to bring in extra cash. The sad result is a bunch of fat ass kids bouncing off the walls, too distracted to learn.
What's your solution?

Amazing. Not only are you a neo-socialist (communist), you are ignorant as well.
The single largest employment growth sector in California was education, period. It grew at a rate of 5% over 2006 and 2007. Faster then then the entire United States as a whole. Followed closely by only Health Care and Social Assistance and Arts, Entertainment and Recreation, both of which grew at about 3% over 2006 and 2007.
Just how much more money should we throw at schools before we start firing people for not producing a viable product (educated children)? Only a neo-socialist (communist) would think money is the answer. If people start looking in my kids lunch box, I start breaking noses.

My solution is personal responsibility. A foreign concept to neo-socialists (communists).

Arnold Schwarzenegger's May budget proposal gives more money to schools than he suggested in January, and meets the minimum guarantee schools are owed under state law. And his latest proposal increases school spending next year by $200 million over this year......... HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD WE THROW AT NON PERFORMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are getting another 200 Million ON TOP of LAST YEARS INCREASE.... WHICH WOULD BE PLENTY IF THE ILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEAGALS WERE OUT OF THE SYSTEM.. Sorry I am calm again.
