Re. Pflager, the fiery Catholic priest who made headlines with his vitriolic anti-Hillary sermon now decides that the storm has calmed down enough to stick his head up again. Appearing on that highly intellectual talk show, Good Morning America, the Rev. attempted to defend his sermon by portraying himself as the victim, a typical tactic. One thing the Rev. said really jumped out: One of the major reasons that racism is still alive in America, to some degree, is because people like the Rev. continue to encourage their followers to see themselves not as being empowered to succeed, but as victims of a system that they cannot escape. African Americans who refuse to buy into this victimhood cult demonstrate every day that America is truly the land of unlimited opportunity. Liberals judge society in terms of equality of outcomes, while conservatives judge it in terms of equality of opportunity.

After watching the GMA video, I wonder how Rev. Pflager explains the success that his interviewer (interviewess?), Robin Roberts, has achieved in spite of the color of her skin?

"Liberals judge society in terms of equality of outcomes, while conservatives judge it in terms of equality of opportunity."
This statement couldn't be further from the truth. Liberals see structure as the problem. Imagine a boy in the inner city who is malnourished, goes to a school that is falling apart, has no father in his life, lives in a run-down, noisy, crime infested ghetto, has a mom who works odd hours just to keep them afloat. How does this boy have the same opportunities as your average white kid living in suburbia who has a quiet room to study in, a computer, a supporting family, good teachers, and all the opportunity in the world?
The inner city boy lives in a second America, where the laws of the land don't apply and the laws of the street do.
I invite you to read the book Our America: Life and Death on the South Side of Chicago It details the lives of two inner city boys and it shows that not everyone in America has equal opportunity to succeed.

i made it out and i witnessed a few of my friends make it out too. unfortunately, i saw many other choose to stay in those neighborhoods and become just more "victims of society" as i'm sure you prefer to call us. sure, i could have stayed there, got involved with gangs, drugs, crime. i could've collected public assistance to get by. i could have spent the rest of my life sitting around thinking "the man" was keeping me down. thank God i didn't.
opportunities abound in this country. we can't choose where we are born and raised and we can't choose what families we are born into but we can choose to move up if we want. yes, it may be more difficult, depending on where we start out, for someone like myself on the boys on the southside of chi-town to achieve what the "average kid" achieves but still we have the opportunity to achieve it.
i wasn't born into wealth like paris hilton but i still have the opportunity to become filthy rich if i choose to and work for it.
tell me saunterelle, when you see a wealthy person do you say to yourself, "that S.O.B. has so much more opportunity than me" or do you say "i could be just like him if i wanted to and was willing to work for it?" this is the difference between the conservative and liberal mindsets.

"Imagine a boy in the inner city who is malnourished, "
Cut out the expenive junk food, get the mom off of cigarettes and booze. Good nutrition need not be all that expensive.
"goes to a school that is falling apart,"
Fix the schools. Stop using them for social engineering, kick out the illegals and the children of illegals, teach in English not in 80 different languages. There would be plenty of money.
" has no father in his life,"
Ah! and where is the dead beat s.o.b? Likley out screwing every chippy he can get to lift her skirt and leaving more bastards for society to care for. And then we have the likes of Jesse and Al whining about them being victims of racism.
" lives in a run-down, noisy, crime infested ghetto, has a mom who works odd hours just to keep them afloat."
Well, if the freakin' DADs would get their lazy asses home, get jobs they just might be able to afford something better.
Everything you mentioned is a direct result of the culture of victimhood preached by the left, and by racists a la Jesse and Al. (by the way, how many bastards do those two stellar examples have between them?) So don't give us that crap about how disadvantaged they are. They are there mostly becasuse leftists have been teaching for almost 50 years now that they are victims and that society OWES them something.

SubdJoe sez...
I think we all saw proof of that in the aftermath of Katrina. The po folk in New Orleans, who have been living off of the dole their entire lives, just sat down and waited for someone to take care of them. Meanwhile, the equally-poor folk in Biloxi, which got hit a LOT harder than New Orleans did, got up and took care of themselves.
There was a news clip on TV, during the period when the people were waiting for rescue in the Superdome. A black man was yelling at the TV camera, "You gotta take care of us! Lookit that mess in there! Git down here and help us!" You didn't hear anything like that out of Port Arthur or Biloxi, did you?
Another liberal myth dispersed.

www.wbir.com/news/regional/story.aspx?storyid=41276www.snopes.com/politics/crime/newsom.aspPlease Saunterelle, do your best to explain this away. As just less fortunate souls, doing what they have to to survive.... Wonder why this was not on the news 24/7 --YOU KNOW LIKE THE DUKE "RAPE" CASE----OH YEAH THE VICTIMS WERE WHITE!! Where is Rev AL? How bout Jesse? Why are they not crying for the VICTIM families? Why are they not calling for the same punishements they were for the ALLEGED Duke Rapists.... If this type of reporting or LACK of is not racism or reverse racism I am not sure what is..
