There was no ban on stem cell research, that is a myth started by leftists to push their political agenda. They were afraid that calling an embryo a person may result in a ban on those partial birth abortios they want to force women to have. (that is applying the reasoing that they use against firearms - the right wants to force everyone to carry a gun, so, using that reasoning, then the left must want every woman to have a partial birth abortion). Now, I do have to say that if the source of stem cells was embryos that would have been disposed of by IVF clinics, then I don't have much problem with using them. I do have a problem with IVF clinics in general though. Where did anyone claim there was a ban on stem cell research?? I clearly stated in my opening post what the ban was on. It was a moronic waste of taxpayer money to fund work on the more expensive and time consuming adult stem cells while millions of viable embryonic stem cells were being thrown out (wasted) across the country. Please explain your ridiculous assertion that people on the left want to "force women to have partial birth abortions." Your statement is so stupid that I don't even know where to start with it. Your logic that "it is applying the reasoning that they use against firearms - the right wants to force everyone to carry a gun, so, using that reasoning, then the left must want every woman to have a partial birth abortion" is just plain ridiculous. Why would you link the two? First of all, nobody on the left thinks that those on the right want "everybody to carry a gun." We simply want stricter gun laws to ensure that only responsible adults own them. Secondly, what does that have to do with abortion?? Rethink your argument and try again.

Stem cell research was being funded in California to the tune of $3 Billion, in addition to the philanthropic money that was coming in. All of that is put into jeopardy by the intrusion of Federal money where it is not needed. In fact, we in California should vote to take the rest of our money back if the stem cell research is going to be funded by FEDERAL DOLLARS, why waste mine.
You should rethink your philosophy of a Excessively Intrusive Strong Centralized Federal Government. You might find yourself on the wrong side.

You have a good point there moondog. If only Federal funds had been able to fund the important research going on in California...

You see what I mean. Remember when the Federal Government started regulating states based on the amount of money they put in. I don't want that, you do. I hate having four hundred little King Georges running around empowering little Nazis like you.
I say it is high time us REAL AMERICANS show these little liberal pukes what being American is all about. The Boston Tea Party is a fine example of what I mean. We should follow suit and organize such a get together as is being done around this country. I am sickened by people like Mink and saunterelle who believe that they have the right to screw with the futures of children and grand children in this country. They have no moral authority and wish for others to pay their way because they are worthless and weak, incapable of standing on their own two feet and finding their way in the dark.
saunterelle has never sacrificed one second of his time in real service to his country, so he means nothing to me. I will give Mink a pass, because even though she is obviously a Naomi Wolf NOW woman, she only talks the talk. I bet she never slipped on a pair of Army boots and served one second in the military even though she is my age and was provided the opportunity. She is a hypocrite.
I am going to zero out my deductions to both the Fed and State, let them get their money on April 15th, when it is due. All of us conservatives should take this action to show where the real power lies, in our pocket books. I am sick and tired of assholes like saunterelle coming to the well to drink but not drawing their own water. Excessive government put us on this path of recession. People like Barney Frank milking the system for power and privilege, I have had enough.
Let one stinking liberal say one wrong word to me anywhere, I dare them. I will dress them down so fast that their head will spin. I will use every military curse word I conjure and get right in their face like those jackasses have taught us to do with their attitudes. It is time to turn it around.
Piss on you saunterelle. Piss on all liberals. You want my freedom, take it if you can.

Why do you insist on making this about taking away you freedoms. Can't you see that our children and grandchildren are more handcuffed by Bush and the Republicans entering us into a worthless Middle Eastern quagmire of a war and squandering the economic surplus they were given? No one is trying to take away your freedoms. (Back on point) we just want the freedom to advance science and cure horrible diseases without having to cater to the whims of the wacko religious right. Just because their imaginary friend doesn't approve of using embryonic stem cells doesn't mean we should make a law banning federal funding like Bush did. It is HE (Bush) who took away our freedoms, not the Democrats. So I believe you have it backwards.

Because it is. And no, Bush and the Republicans did not handcuff freedom, Democrats are doing that. The Democratically controlled State you live in right now is less free then 46 other states in the Union. It never used to be that way. It is now that your party has controlled this state since the 1980's.
And the Federal Government never allows people to do anything with their money without them telling you how to spend it. It's not even their money. California only gets back 78 cents on every Federal Dollar we send in, so it is our money we are getting back, not another states. They have no right to attach strings to our money. That takes away freedom and liberty. Or are you just so stupid or so socialist oriented you fail to see the truth of that even when it is shoved right in your face.

Okay, I can see your point about not having control over the use of our tax dollars. But I didn't want my taxes paying for an unjust war, or teaching abstinence in schools, or many other things that conservatives used it for either. So blaming the Democrats is not really valid.

I am blaming them because they started the whole issue back in 1933 with the election of FDR. Just where do you think it began. Just how do you think all this crap got the way it is? FDR and his ideas are what we are still operating our Strong Centralized Federal Government under. I am pissed Bush did not attempt to dismantle some of it. Obama is making is much worse by doing the same thing that FDR did. The Federal Government has overstepped its authority. And we are the losers.

And do not get me started on the war. That was a legal war, with democrats and republicans voting to take action. It is that simple. It was not unjust, it was entirely just and done in a legal fashion. You just fail to accept that single, unavoidable truth.

If it wasn't for FDR, America would have gone the way of the dodo. I've asked you repeatedly what your candidate Bob Barr would have done about our current economic crisis and you've given me no answer. FDR is right behind Washington and Lincoln as the one of the greatest Presidents ever because he saved our grandparent's asses. Hopefully Obama's plan will work and we will see a similar (albeit faster) outcome. How can you say that the lending institutions need to be more heavily regulated, and in the same breath suggest that the market will take care of everything if we just leave it be?

I am not Bob Barr, I cannot answer for him. But, I am sure he would have had a very good plan. Why don't you Ask Bob Barr yourself?

In his article Barr rips the current stimulus plan but he offers no alternative solution to the crisis. Why would you vote for a guy who offers no ideas or solutions.
