Though I believe the reaction to the postcard was one of intolerance, I had to smite saunterelle for saying "Religion is nuts!" That is more offensive then the reaction to the postcard.

From the article:
"The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean"
My point is that dogs are considered unclean because, through religion, they've been seen that way for centuries. Even if science can prove that dogs are actually clean, it wouldn't matter. That, to me, is nuts.
I am also outraged at the intolerance on display here. Even if the dog in the hat is unclean, why should people let it offend them? It's very much like Christians disliking gay people and not wanting them to marry.
Please exalt me as deserved.

You have been exalted for your correction. Though it was borderline, since you attacked Christians.

Saunterelle, I accidentally took a point and will credit as soon as I am able. I did not see anything wrong with your statement, "religion is nuts" as it explained the reaction. My apologies.

Though I am not religious zealot, I am offended by anyone saying "religion is nuts." You are insulting a good 90% of the world. Which begs the question, why are you democrats/liberals/neosocialists so PC until it comes to people of faith? Just saying the people who were offended were intolerant is enough. Because it really was just a Muslim reaction, why not say, "Muslims are nuts?" Why are you painting with such a broad brush? I really don't need to smite you, because you do it to yourself with such statements.

Some religions have their beliefs that those who don't practice, don't relate to......ie, the Hindu, who I respect, however, they revere the cow and will not eat it. Does that explain the statement- It wasn't meant to be offending, IMO...and I didn't take it that way.

while i have been single-handedly waging a battle to bring santurelle back into the positive numbers i am forced to smite him for this statement. i would like to get your opinion on rats. clean or unclean? i believe you called all religion nuts because you are afraid to say that muslims are nuts (which they are). and when 59 more minutes pass i am also going to smite mink for supporting such a dumb statement.

Mink, no worries about the accidental smite. I won't hold my breath awaiting positive karma.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but if I continued to believed in Santa Claus or the world being flat wouldn't you claim I have a screw loose? How is religion any different?
Religions like Christianity and Islam are based on ancient story books that many of us mistakenly interpret as truth. Science has long since wiped away the possibility of "miracles" occurring. And do you honestly believe there is a judgmental "God" who cares that an unclean dog is in a hat for an advertisement or that gays get married? It's just silly.
Just because 90% of the world believes in something doesn't make it is right. At one point in our history 90% of Americans believed that slavery was justified. Does that mean it was right or that we should tolerate it? Religion is an archaic, outdated method of finding meaning and moral guidance. Many young people in Europe are realizing this and leaving the church in droves. Hopefully the same will soon happen in America.
You can argue that society needs religion to control a population, but you can't argue that religion isn't nuts when it's based on blind faith.

you forgot to give your opinion of the rats.
so, do you believe that millions of years ago lightening struck a mud puddle and somehow fused together two specs of matter and sparked life or something like that? please tell us your theory of the creation of life. i'm dying to hear it.
science is great but it is not the end all, be all. i have found no scientist who can tell me what lies beyond the universe. do you ever imagine what lies beyond? where does it all end? is it possible some form of intelligent design played a part in it all?
