This story is a misleading piece of yellow journalism. One thing that people tend to forget is that the plumbing between your legs does not determine your sex. You can change it all you want, but nature has a means of determining sex that can not be altered.
In other words, no matter how many surgeries you have, if you have XY chromosomes then you are male. If you have XX chromosomes, you are female. So, a pregnant woman gave birth, not a pregnant man. Science trumps surgery.

This story is nothing but media hype! This "man" is a woman who decide to have her breasts removed, take male hormones, and call herself a man. He/she can have a baby because, well, he/she is a WOMAN (I agree Bolverk)! I am not passing judgment, just pointing out the facts.

In most cases this would be a correct statement, but as in Nature, there are always abnorms to every case. XX and XY do not always define whether the child is male or female. In all cases thou, sex hormones really determine the sex of the child. If the child is Androgen sensitive, the child will develop into a male otherwise, in most cases the child will not develop masculine traits and be considered feminized The study of intersexed children or Pseudohermaphrodites makes one realize the traumatic existence of children born with this genital birth defect. The dude who gave birth to a daughter was a female transsexual with fully viable female sex organ. She more than likely went off of male hormones to get pregnant. www.news-medical.net/?id=31403Yes, women with XY chromosones (althought the Y chromosone is an aberation of the other X chromosone) sometimes don't even know it, have children, and live out their lives as women. In the study of Klinefelters syndrome, multiple sex chromosones 47 XXY or YYX, or multiple combinations occur in 1 out of every 500 males. 48 XXYY males occur in 1 of every 17,000 births. Most X with multiple Y chromosone males most always end up in prison from frequent violent crimes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kleinfelter's_syndrome Then again, we could always discuss chimira disease where DNA genetic make up is multiplied in the individual. Rare cases of individuals with two or more DNA markers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics)

Yes ferrous you make some interesting points. However, all of them are aberrations of the normal human, and can not be considered as evidence that XY chromosomes do determine sex. These are birth defects, with defect being the operative word.
So, a sex change operation is not a real sex change. That is my only point. Abnormal are just that, and must be considered separate to this issue.
