I woke up Sunday to find fences and walls in my apt. complex tagged by some punk asshole. Sorry about the language but it makes me extremely angry. The complex is near Slater middle school and is usually pretty quiet and clean. I've been there about 3 1/2 years and have never personally seen any evidence of these dirtbags until this weekend. I had a couple cans of brake parts cleaner and a scotch-brite abraisve pad that made removal fairly easy. I called SRPD and was surprised to have a police field technician show up later in the afternoon. Not really much they could do besides make note and give me a incident number.

Nufsaid, that's too bad and on your birthday too! I think it is the punksters up to no good while on summer vacation. I noticed last week on the way to work a house that is currently unoccupied tagged. I used to love passing by because of the palms are big and lush.......the tag just makes me mad as hell!
I lived not too far from Slater in my college days and one summer, the kids TP'd a beautiful tree that took up the yard across the street from my apartment. My neighbors were needless to say were pissed off.....one day these punks will get theirs and hopefully soon.

Yeah, it kinda ruined the b-day mood. While tping a house is still a slight form of vandalism it never really used to happen all the time. I consider it more of a prank while I see tagging as someone urinating to mark his "territory". I knew what the "X4" tags stood for that I removed. Does any one know what "V5P" with a small "x" in the rounded area of the "5" means?

For what it's worth, you should not clean it until either SRPD or the Grafitti Abatement folks can come over and snap some pix. Or snap them yourself and give them prints when they come out. Taggers, as opposed to the simple gangbangers, are very unique and their tags are their signatures. Felony prosecutions have been made against habitual taggers who've been identified.
And I do know what you mean. We get nailed at the lodge hall on West Ninth every week or two.
"VSP" is "Varrio South Park", a Norteno set. The x and the 5 in relation mean "15", similarly to the 14. VSP is historically a southeast Santa Rosa group. Gang tagging is, as you say, all about marking their "territory" and if the taggers are really VSP and trying to claim turf up in that neighborhood, then that would be something of an expansion for them.

I took pix before I removed the tags. I could tell that these were gang tags right of the bat, not just the scribbling of a 14year old on a skateboard.

Talk about piss me off. I got home after work to find a snotty note from my apt manager slipped in to my door mail slot. First she complained that I had used her emergency(read cellphone) number when this was "far" from an emergency. So sorry to disturb you on the weekend B***H! However I do believe this is part of your job and I do see this as something very important. She goes on to talk about how this has happened in the past(I've never seen it) and how its not that big of a deal. BS! This is where I live! I was not going to wait around for three days until she got around to fixing the problem so I removed it myself. Many neighbors thanked me and she complains that I should have left well alone. That's one of the biggest problems in this area. People seem to have become totally accustomed to this problem and feel that it is just part of living here.
