A congressional report to be released this week slams the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, calling it a "failure of leadership" that left people stranded when they were most in need.

"Our investigation revealed that Katrina was a national failure, an abdication of the most solemn obligation to provide for the common welfare," the report said. "At every level -- individual, corporate, philanthropic and governmental -- we failed to meet the challenge that was Katrina. In this cautionary tale, all the little pigs built houses of straw."

So a report from a Democrat Congress criticizing the previous Republican president is presented as an unbiased review of the facts? Only in your world, Saunterelle.

Does it say anything about the failure of Ray "School Bus" Nagin to implement the Emergency Response Plan that was written for the City of New Orleans? Does it say anything about the failure of Gov. Kathleen Blanco to ask for National Guard help in the early stages of the catastrophe because she was afraid to relinquish state sovereignty?

Does it say anything about the equivalent disaster we have recently witnessed in Iowa, and how they were somehow able to muddle through the highest flood levels in recent history on their own? Does it say anything about how here in Sonoma County we deal with flooding on the Russian River almost every year without complaining about a lack of aid from FEMA?

You are trying to deflect from having to face the facts about FEMA's response. Maybe there were also failures in Negan's response or Iowa, but can you for once address the topic at hand? Regarding FEMA, are you saying the congressional report lied about their response?

OBAMA: Government can't do all of this. I'm the first one to acknowledge this. That's why I'm always puzzled when people go out there and creating this bogeyman about Obama, you know, wants government-run everything I don't want government to run stuff. I -- like I've said, I've got enough stuff to do. I've got North Korea and I've got Iran and I've got Afghanistan and Iraq. I don't know where people get this idea that I want to -- I want to run stuff or I want government to run stuff.
