I decided to start a new thread here rather than talk about civil rights in the New PD forum thread.
Ah, Mink. I see you value the right to choose. Your choice is to not own firearms. Yet you support politicians who would take the right to choose from me. And, from some of your comments in the old forum, you would tell me what I may and may not own. You, and the all powerful State, know better than I what I am capable of safely using. You want to take away the right to choose from Big Dog, Gaff, Nufsaid, myself, and many others.
On my recent trip across the nation I saw lots of gun stores, with big signs, just a few blocks off I-80 or I-70. Most were in states that trust their citizens, have no waiting periods, only the NICS check as required by the feds. And all those places, even the ones that sold evil black rifles and full capacity magazines, have much lower crime rates than CA. Seems that the states that keep adding more and more restrictions to the honest citizen have problems with high crime rates. Those that trust their citizens to exercise their enumerated and protected civil rights have low crime rates.

Subdjoe, I did not start on guns but responded as many others were on the last thread.
It won't suffice that I don't have a "real" problem with guns, it is my support of Democrats, I'm a Dem. I don't agree with everything they vote on and I let them know with my disdain or applause them accordingly. Since, I am not a gun enthusiast, I don't pay much attention to their stances, but if they are hypocrites, well, what politician isn't?

True, Mink. It is impossible to find a politician whos every stance you can support, you have to deal with what you can get. And I too pay attention to what they are doing, and email and call them. I'm still a persona non grata with Woolsys office, I don't even get canned responses anymore. Ditto for good old babs boxer. The people in DiFis office will still, grudginly, respond ot me.
I too am a registered Dem. But the strong anti-civil rights stance by that party has pretty much driven me from it - not only 2nd amendment, but the perversion of the 1st, 4th, and 5th, by that party. Much worse than the GOP.

Only the ones who vote accordingly, the ones who support the whole constitution and vote against their party when they attempt to circumvent it. Which happens everyday where the second amendment is concerned.

I fully support right to carry. The criminals by definition do not follow laws, and will do what they want to no matter what law is on the books.
Why punish the law abiding citizen that wants the ability to protect themselves or loved ones? The police cannot be at all points of the universe simultaneously, so normal citizens need to take responsibility for their own protection.
Given that this state is hopeless (they'll never support a right to carry law, or any law that diverges from the big brother-sheep mentality), my long term plan is to move to a state that is more friendly to law abiding citizens.

You can (or used to able to) get CCW for Mendocino and I've been told that Napa's a cinchtoo. But those permits are no good here Sonoma. Heck we can't even get another outdoor range. I's crazy- I have a 30 State CCW from Utah (a shall issue ste) by the mail- by just showing proof of all my Fronstight trainging. Yet the sheriff allows every retired deputy to carry for life regardless their qualifcations. I have two words for that politically back gun climate here : MATTHEW TOSTE

You can (or used to able to) get CCW for Mendocino and I've been told that Napa's a cinchtoo. But those permits are no good here Sonoma. Heck we can't even get another outdoor range. Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is quite liberal in their permit issuance policy. Not sure where you are getting your information on relative to Napa County, the city of Napa itself is pretty much forget it aside from reserve and special classification LEOs. Napa Sheriff's Department has always been fairly reasonable in their issuance policy, however they just recently retired their twenty year sheriff and a new man took over. Thats usually when policies and practices change. Permits in California are good anywhere in the state under the state law that allows issuance, unless the issuing authority puts limitations on it which they can do under their discretionary authority. A permit to carry concealed issued by Mendocino is perfectly good in SoCo. Not sure where you drew the idea that they are no good outside the county of issuance from but it's not correct in practice or under state law. Retired after 1981 officers have to qualify and have their carry privilieges renewed by their agency every few years. It's in the Penal Code. There are more and more agencies all the time that are not renewing carry privileges for retired officers after a few years. They don't want to continue to carry the liability. A man lawfully carrying concealed would have at least been able to defend himself in that situation. All Matt Toste could do was bleed to death on the dirty floor of a city parking garage while his friends and family watched the gangster vermin who killed him run away.

In conversations with deputies- if that's the case I'm heading over to Mendo or Napa next week- thanks. You're right about poor Matthew and it sickens me- at the very least he may have been able to have sent a couple vermin to the hell they deserved. Again- thanks for the good info

You need to be resident in the county of issue, I do believe. The sheriff in Alpine county a few years back was issuing to anyone in the state, and got hauled up short for it. And I believe tha law got changed.
