We already voted NO on gay marriage before. Then the court overruled us. We will vote NO again, the media loves gays (tons of gays work in it, that's why. The media also loves Obama, and all Dems as well). I'm sure the left will find a way to take it to court again and overrule the vote of the people. But I will still vote NO on prop 8 in November. www.protectmarriage.com/howtohelp.php

Oh please. If two people love each other and want to be committed to that love who cares what gender, race etc. they are. It's really nobody's business what other couples do so long as it is respectful and sacred, especially if children are involved.

because marriage is between a man and woman, not just a couple. next you'll want to define marriage as the love/commitment between two "life forms." geez!

TNG, geez yourself! Like that wasn't a predictable response. Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and "poof" you're gay! Now, lets' pretend your family told you to seek counseling because you have a mental illness, but no matter what you do to become "normal" you’re still GAY. You still have all of the same values, and desires in life that you did prior and the only difference is you prefer someone of the same sex. Does that mean now somehow your life should be worth less, or you should be shunned socially and legally? And, if so why? If people are in committed relationships, and have children I think the legal benefits of marriage are important, well, unless you don't mind footing the bill when some of those partners without legal/financial protection seek financial aid. See below: _________________________________________ Federal Rights, Protections and Benefits of Marriage United States By Ramon Johnson, About.com gaylife.about.com/od/samesexmarriage/a/benefits.htm According to a report given to the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. General Accounting Office, here are a few of the 1,138 benefits the United States government provides to legally married couples: Access to Military Stores Assumption of Spouse’s Pension Bereavement Leave Immigration Insurance Breaks Medical Decisions on Behalf of Partner Sick Leave to Care for Partner Social Security Survivor Benefits Sick Leave to Care for Partner Tax Breaks Veteran’s Discounts Visitation of Partner in Hospital or Prison Here are a few of the state level benefits within the United States: Assumption of Spouse’s Pension Automatic Inheritance Automatic Housing Lease Transfer Bereavement Leave Burial Determination Child Custody Crime Victim’s Recovery Benefits Before I shun others (people that don't hurt others etc) I take a moment to try and place myself in their shoes.

I am stead fast in my position that requiring a marriage license is a clear violation of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
I know my position is not popular, or even seen as correct by most people. But a quick look at the history of the United States clearly shows that the marriage license was born from racism, in an attempt to prevent mixed marriages. They should be struck down, then all this gay marriage strife will no longer be an issue. There are plenty of churches that would marry gays.

Not to mention that a marriage license basically amounts to a marriage tax. And boy I am against most taxes, as the system is unmanageable. Perhaps we should create a signature drive to put a law on the books that forces this state to adhere to standard accounting practices.

Bolverk, I hear you. Marriage is religion based, and the State has no business in it.
JMO, your points are easily taken care of by legislation. Civil unions, with your points mandated by law to apply to those in them, will take care of it. Shouldn't be any great stretch for legislators to write a few laws to incorportate all those things into a package covering civil unions. They seem to want to direct every other aspect of our daily lives. they pass laws telling me how and what to think, with whom I must associate, etc, etc. Why do they seem hand tied on this?

"Because marriage is between a man and a woman, not just a couple"...
Okay:
You should only write with your right hand, left handed people are freaks.
You should only mingle and mate with people within your own race.
Animals are incapable of feeling emotion.
All women should wear dresses, have long hair, stay home, and not be allowed to vote.
All men should wear pants, be the only ones allowed to work for a living, go to war, and replace the siding on the house.
;D

There but for the grace of god go I...JMO, A good many of those benefits have been in place for a long time. When a "spouse" was likely to be a wife who stayed home taking care of home and family. Many of these benefits aren't really necessary if both spouses work fuill time making decent money. Access to military stores, insurance breaks and other financial matters can easily be assigned to "dependents", so that if a spouse or legally identified partner is also a dependent they can have the benefit. Some of the others, like burial decisions, medical decisions, child custody etc... can be assigned by written agreement between two people. Maybe all of the benefits of "marriage" can be eliminated or adjusted since the times have changed, instead, we seem to keep adding people to the list of those eligible to receive free benefits which let's face it, costs us all in the long run. When more and more non-employees qualify to receive the benefits offered by my company, do you think they eat the cost? Nope, all their customers pay for it. I don't much care who wants to refer to themselves as a couple, or life partners, domestic partners... whatever, what I care about it who reaps the benefits handed out, and are they really deserving of those benefits???

These "new" marriage licenses are a JOKE. They no longer say BRIDE & GROOM on them. I'm glad I was married when they still said BRIDE & GROOM, otherwise I'd have to get married in red state Nevada.
BTW, I am pretty sure that YES ON 8 will pass, though the polls say it won't.
