As a new member, I don't understand what smite and exalt do. Could someone please explain? Hi surefire, good question!! The exalt/smite feature is a "tool" used in reaction to a particular post. If you like it, you can exalt a member.....if you don't like the post, you can smite them. This will give them a score (Karma points or lack there of). How the feature is used is under discussion in this thread. Hope that helps.

I have done neither & have no interest in the feature.
It is challenging enough just to operate this box of wonders.
My 2 cents.

I'd like an option to turn off smite and exalt by each poster. If you want it on, fine, if you don't, then that's fine too. But I think being able to turn it off would be better. Frankly, I think it's juvenile.

I don't necessarily mind being smited so I'm fine with it either way. And I appreciate how bolverk tells me why he's doing the smiting even though it is sometimes uncalled for.

Smitten, not smited. Or smote.

Hi surefire....not quite sure where you first entered, but, welcome to the forum if I haven't welcomed you already.
I checked out your homepage and I like the product. Do you think you will ever delve into battery powered lanterns? I already have two because they came as a pair, however, I like your technology.

Hi Mink, Thanks for the welcome, I am honored to join the site. To answer your question, I'm just a Surefire customer/fanatic/collector... I'm not a Surefire employee. I collect mostly the LED Surefire models (L2, L4, L5, and U2 for example), with a few high powered incandescents thrown in the mix (such as the M4 Devastator). You bring up a great question, which I think you should ask here: www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/pgname/cust_feedback/strfnbr/6If you ever have questions about the LED hand held models--which is my expertise, I could definitely lead you in the right direction. There are several other companies that make nice lanterns, and you can find out more info here: www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/This is a flashlight / lantern forum with roughly 50,000 knowledgable members (you're welcome to check it out and join if it is an interest). I post under a different screen name on that board.
