While I sort of understand the urge to smite some individuals here, I see that one of us tends to, in my opinion, over use this feature on another member.
Let's try to keep the smite/exalt for really outstanding bit of idiocy or erudition rather than just as a toy hammer or lollypop.

I will admit I smite saunterelle often. But, not as with a toy hammer. I smite him, and I say why, just as when I exalt someone.
I know I have been smote by the same person, and never once have I seen a reason. But hey, the lower my score, the more I know I have shown plenty of resources, as I usually provide them. I make my points in a very up front way. Just as I do my smites.

Instead of smiting, we could try convincing using facts, logic & reason.
However, I am reminded of the old question.
"Do you believe in clubs for women?"
"Yes, if reason fails."

Of course, one could say that I do smite saunterelle too often, just as he is often so far off the mark one can not believe that suanterelle was actually an American.
Electric cars. Homosexual animals proving the normalcy of human homosexuality. Restricting drilling so we are forced to use alternative energy sources that do not yet exist. Yep, one can rarely read a post from him without the urge to smite.
But, I appreciate the thought. I personally would just do away with the feature. As long as it is being used, I will smite him anytime I feel he is saying something that is well within any of the above categories of lunatic fringe.
And I will wear his return, unexplained smites, as a badge of honor.

Please also note that I have even smote Mink, and told her. But I can not smite Mink on nearly every subject. Often she presents good points that I just happen to disagree with. This unequivocally shows that I am not biased to just smiting liberals. Only people who are way out on the fringe.

Oh, I'm not saying don't use the features, just that a bit more discretion should be used. Don't smite for ordinary, everyday idiocy/lunacy, save it for something spectacular - say, quoting Jesse or either Al as being experts on something. Likewise, save exalt for something other than just agreeing with you. Maybe use it for a really good cite (or link to a really good site).

Citing Bruce Bagemihl is a smite worthy offense. So is saying that a $109,000 two seater automobile is proof of the viability of the electric car.

Smiting is what we should be doing more of in the world, not our backyards.
We could start with Iran.
I'd exalt that!

As a new member, I don't understand what smite and exalt do.
Could someone please explain?

we could eliminate the exalt/smite feature altogether but i must admit i think it's rather comical and doesn't really do any harm.

Then again, we could take a vote. While some use the feature because they disagree, doesn't make the other "wrong". It is just a matter of mere difference of opinion, regardless of the resource provided, only shows support of one's stance Personally, I can take it or leave it....however, it has the potential of being a fun thing or could very well be a never ending battle, not solving any argument or debate.....such are debates. No one is right and no one is wrong.
