Well, the latest information I have from the TV, and Newspapers,
just makes me sure that, that whole Bridge Fiasco from start to finish, has been so poorly designed and poorly reworked that there probably is no sense in trying to save it. I suggest that it be removed completely and forget about any replacement until there are capable Large Bridge Engineers who have a long list of
successful Bridges under their belts. There are Large Bridge Builders needed.
Writing speeding tickets [50MPH???] won't solve the problem of
having 50 accidents in as many days, on the "Curve" of the bridge. That Curve has such a poor design that it guarentees lots
of accidents. When the CHP stops ticketing, there will just be more accidents. Of course there must have been more than the 50 accidents that were not reported, and there is a lot of other
"Stuff" that can be brought up about the lousy design. I read one comment from a wise Lady who asked why that curve wasn't
"Banked". Thats a legitimate question, and gets to my question of "doesn't anyone at CHP know about Newtons Laws? A Banked curve would have been something in the right direction, but not enough to save the trucker. The poor design is the direct cause of that Big Rig going over the side. A left turn. Narrowed lanes, and lack of understanding of Natural Laws, by whoever designed that turn in the road. Centrifigal Force is a great big factor there.
That bridge was designed with certain Safety Factors. To replace the Eye Bar would not change the design, but when you cut the Bridge up into a totally different design, someone there had better be qualified to do it. I don't believe there is anyone that
is qualified to remodel that Bridge. There are altogether different strains and stresses after the changes that were made to the Bridge. One is the different stress put on the Bridge by people braking their cars. And also probably acceleration on the lower deck. There will be a tendency for the Bridge to want to move in the direction of the Braking cars. plus there will probably be a twisting of the bridge caused by the turn in the Bridge.
Oh, you probably won't be able to see it, but it may be felt. There should be Motion Sensors to detect what the Bridge is doing.
I would suggest that no vehicles larger than a pickup truck be
allowed on the bridge, except CT trucks. And, when the police leave, while the bridge is closed, "they" should eliminate at least
one lane, and preferrably two. The remaining lanes should be
used to separate the cars to give a decent amount of space so the drivers can correct the turn as safely as possible.
My best advice would be to tear the Bridge Down. Drivers will find other detours.
