Heckle, your guess about not many people wanting to carry front stuffers is OK, but some do. But your comment - "and if they use them, they have a habit of backfiring or exploding" is way the hell off. No more subject to that than metallic cartridge breechloaders. You might want to get information somewhere besides movies, makes you look like a politician.

Subdjoe... I don't know how you can equate billions of metal bullets that do not explode or backfire, against muzzle loaders that do explode, as being equal? No comparison. As to your last sentence of chastisement, I don't know how you arrived at those assumptions.

yeah, sometimes the muzzle loaders do blow up. So do breech loaders. And, yeah, if you use a poorly cared for antique, or use smokeless powder, you can have problems. But there are millions of rounds expendedd every year from muzzle loaders with few, if any, catastrophic failures. The last failure I heard about was some genius who took apart some .44 magnum cartridges and used the components to load a black powder revolver. Of course the thing went off like a grenade. But then, around the time I heard about that incident, I saw a guy blow apart his brand new Kimber 1911 clone. Seems that one of his own reloads had gotten a double charge. He was OK, the pistol did what it was supposed to do - magazine shot out the well, recoil spring cap, recoil spring and barrel bushing shot down range. Split the grips too. Good thing he had a glove on. , As for how I came to my assumptions, they came from comparing what you wrote to the knowlege and experience I have from about 35 years experience shooting the Holy Black, and assoiciating with people who do, many of whom have more experience than I do in the sport. What you wrote seems to more in line with something gleened from a bad movie than real life.
I guess I did go overboard saying you sounded like a politician, though.
